Tins function scans an original once the scanning area, scanning composition, resolutaon, and
other values have been set
When setting these values, cons]derataon should be g~ven to the ongmal that is to be scanned and
to the output device (chsplay, printer, etc ) For example, ~t ~s meaningless to scan an original
lugh resolutaon ff the resolution of the output device is lower than the scanning resolutaon,
especmlly because tugh-resolut]on scanning uses a great deal of memory and reqmres more
processing tame
Scanning Composition
There are three scanning composition modes binary scanning, halftone scanning, and multi-
value scanning

Binary scanning
Tins mode scans the original m black and white Tins mode is used to scan originals that
consist only of text, line drawings, and other elements that lack mterme&ate colors

Halftone scanning
Ttus mode scans the original m pseudo-halftones created by dots Tins mode ~s used to
output an original that contains intermediate colors, such as a photo, on an output device that
can only express binary per p~xel, such as a laser printer
Gray
scanning
Scale
TbJs mode scans the original with 16 or 256 gradations Ttus mode is used to output an
original that contains mterme&ate colors on an output device that can express different
gradations for a single ptxel, such as a Dye Subhtnataon printer or a &splay
