Advice and tips on using
the oven
Use the following advice to
save energy and make
cleaning easier.
Put food in a cold oven and
use residual heat. Food and
baking with a cooking time
of over 20 minutes can be put
into a cold oven. Set the
time and temperature as
shown. Turn off the oven
and let the food or baking
remain in the oven for a
further 15-20 mins.
Fill the shelf up. You can
easily bake and roast at the
same time if the dishes cook
at the same temperature.
They will not take on the
flavour of the other items.
No bain-marie. A bain-
marie uses lots of energy.
The food's own moisture is
enough to prevent it drying
out.
Bake cakes in a low-sided
mould rather than a high-
sided one. This will shorten
cooking times and save
energy.
Don't roast at too high a
temperature. Meat contains about
70% water. To get the juiciest
meat, slow-roast it. The roasting
time will be slightly longer and you
will use slightly more energy at the
lower temperature, but the result
will be better. At the same time
your oven will be easier to clean
because fat droplets will not burn
on so hard.
