5.3 Raising/Lowering the Lift

Risk of Injury
The lift could tip and endanger the patient and assistants.
– Invacare does not recommend locking of the rear
casters of the patient lift when lifting an individual.
– Invacare does recommend that the rear casters be left
unlocked during lifting procedures to allow the patient
lift to stabilize itself when the patient is initially lifted
from a chair, bed or any stationary object.

Lift, page 21 before performing this procedure.
There are two controls on the pump assembly:

The control valve
•
The pump handle
1.
To raise the lift:
Position the control valve in the closed position A (towards
a.
the pump handle C).
b.
Move the pump handle up and down to elevate the boom D
until it locks in the notch of the bracket.
c.
Ensure the boom has locked in the notch of the bracket.
2.
To lower the lift:
Gently open B the control valve (away from the pump
a.
handle).
b.
If there is no patient in the sling E, pull down on the boom.
The rate of descent of the boom is controlled by the
amount that the control valve is open.
A safety gate is part of the hydraulic system that controls
the maximum descent of the boom regardless of how far
the control valve is opened.
