might be required for installation and service work. This is particularly important at the rear of
racks and for racks placed adjacent to walls, where ambient lighting might not be effective. For
example, it is difficult to see cable connection points on the hardware if there is not enough light.
Adequate lighting reduces the chances of connector damage when cables are installed or removed.
1.10 Tools and Resources
You need the following hand tools and assembly resources to unpack and install the cluster:
•
Adequate illumination and a power supply for power tools and inspection lamps
•
A table at least 36 inches high for unpacking small boxed items and assembling piece parts
•
A suitable short step ladder, step stool, or raised work platform
•
A tool kit for the following fastener types and sizes in imperial and metric:
— #1, #2, and #3 Phillips (cross-head) screwdriver, 6 inches long
— Medium and large flat-blade (slotted) screwdriver, 6 inches long
— T-10, T-15, T-25, and T-30 Torx screwdriver
— Hex keys or drivers (Allen wrenches)
— Standard hexagonal nut and bolt wrenches, box wrenches (socket set), or ratchet set
with extensions
— Fastener recovery magnet
— Cage nut insertion tool
•
A safety box cutter or other sharp-bladed knife to remove packaging.
•
A disposal area or large dumpsters for the disposal and recycling of packaging materials.
For comfort and efficiency while setting up your rack and installing the components, use
battery-powered screwdrivers where possible.
1.1 1 Delivery Route Verification
The following topics help you to plan how to receive the cluster hardware and move it to its
destination. Using the physical characteristics data from previous sections, make sure that there
is a suitable unobstructed route from the receiving dock to the unpacking and installation locations
of each rack. Note the following constraints:
•
You cannot reorient the packed rack by laying it on its side, front, or back.
Caution:
Do not lay the rack horizontally because this can cause serious damage to the rack and its
installed components.
•
You cannot lean the rack from perpendicular except when unloading it from the pallet (in
which case it should lean no more than 15 degrees from perpendicular).
•
HP recommends that you do not remove the rack from its pallet until it is at the unpacking
and installation location. Transport a rack as far into the building as possible while it is still
on the pallet. Although the racks are fitted with casters, moving a preinstalled system rack
on its casters (other than for a short distance) is not recommended.
•
Use powered trucks (dollies) and forklifts only as directed on the packaging and on any
associated shipping and handling documentation. Use your planning estimates to plan in
advance of delivery that your trucking equipment is adequate, but always verify the safe
handling limits against the actual shipping weight specified on the shipping paperwork.
