1 Gigabit Ethernet Solutions Overview HP Cluster Platform solutions with a gigabit Ethernet interconnect support a variety of operating systems and software solutions. Gigabit Ethernet is an extension to the 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps IEEE 802.3 Ethernet standards. It builds on top of the Ethernet protocol, but increases transmission speed tenfold to 1000 Mbps, or 1 gigabit per second (Gbps).
