Maintain a temperature range of 10 C to 26 C (50 F to 80 F); the optimum operating temperature is 21 C (70 F). Maintain a humidity range from 20 percent to 80 percent (non-condensing); the optimum humidity level is 50 percent. CAUTION Do not move the system without first shutting it down and turning off the power, or damage to internal components may result.

Monitor Video port WARNING If you do not use cables supplied by Intergraph Computer Systems, you must use shielded cables to prevent excessive electromagnetic interference (EMI). Intergraph Computer Systems cables are designed to reduce the amount of EMI produced by the system.
Option cards are installed in the Accelerated Graphics Port (AGP), Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI), and Industry Standard Architecture (ISA) option slots in the base unit. If you purchased option cards from Intergraph Computer Systems, they are installed in specific slots as follows.
Connecting Speakers and a Microphone If the system includes separate powered speakers and a microphone, connect the speakers to the Line Out port on the I/O panel, and connect the microphone to the Microphone port on the I/O panel. Connect the speaker power AC adapter to the appropriate speaker(s), and then to a grounded, three-prong AC wall outlet.

The Windows NT delivery media contain software and drivers for both Reduced Instruction Set Computing (RISC)- and Intel-based systems. When installing Windows NT distribution files, make sure you install them from the \ 386 directory (the Intel software directory) on the delivery media.

Configuring the Video Display Driver The first time you start the system, your monitor displays at 1024 x 768 screen resolution. For the system to use the installed video adapter at other display resolutions, you must configure the video display driver as described in the video adapter documentation included with the system.
Restart the system to use the reconfigured video display driver. If problems persist, contact Intergraph Computer Systems Customer Response Center for help. Installing MegaRAID Power Console Software NOTE This section only applies to systems that contain the AMI MegaRAID controller.
Basic RAID Hardware Information If your InterServe 80 SL comes with the RAID option, the system contains a RAID controller (also known as adapter), three disk drives cabled to the controller, and RAID software. For information on the AMI MegaRAID controller installed in an InterServe 80 SL with internal RAID, and for information on the MegaRAID software, refer to the InterRAID documentation delivered with the system.

The following figure shows the disk drive bays, with their attached controller (ADP), and the channel (CH) and SCSI ID (ID) designations. Note the difference between a system with 1.0-inch drives and 1.6-inch drives. The standard disk drives are installed in the bays as shown by the shaded slots.

When using MegaRAID BIOS or Power Console, the program identifies the drives as Ax-N. Ax represents the array within the cabinet that the drives are a part of, and N represents the sequence number within the array. NOTE For detailed information about using the MegaRAID BIOS or Power Console, refer to the InterRAID documentation.
If your system was shipped with more than three RAID drives, then the extra drives are not configured into an array. The InterServe 80 SL accommodates up to four 1.6-inch drives, or up to five 1.0-inch drives. Before you can use them, these additional RAID drives must be configured using the MegaRAID BIOS or, more preferrably, Power Console.
Configuring Audio The system is equipped with an on-board ESS Maestro-2 PCI sound adapter. If the system has a multimedia keyboard or a microphone and speakers, you can use either the operating system or ESS sound control programs to control them. For information on using the sound control programs, see the operating system documentation, or Help.
5. If necessary, click OK, and then click Yes. 6. Repeat steps 2 through 4 for each hard disk drive letter assignment that you want to change. 7. Click Partition, then click Exit. If necessary, restart the system to complete the drive letter reassignments.
Change the SCSI host parameters on a per-device basis under the following conditions: If you are advised to do so by Intergraph Computer Systems technical support or instructed to do so by the vendor documentation supplied with the SCSI device.

After connecting the system to AC power, press the Standby button momentarily (for less than 1 second) to start the system. To shut down the InterServe 80 SL, use the Automatic Shutdown Utility.
Configuring the Automatic Shutdown Utility Before you use the Automatic Shutdown Utility, you must configure it. Double-click the Automatic Shutdown Utility icon in the taskbar tray. The Automatic System Shutdown dialog box displays. Choose an option and click Apply, then click Start Shutdown. After you start the system again, the utility will use the settings you selected.
Using Hardware Security Features The InterServe 80 SL provides you with several security features designed to help prevent unauthorized tampering with the internal components. A security tab is located at the top left of the chassis under the top cover. You can place a small padlock or a security seal in the hole on the tab to prevent removal of the left side panel.
See the System Reference for details on removing the top cover. Enabling the MegaRAID Audible Alarm On an InterServe 80 SL with a MegaRAID disk controller, the controller’s audible alarm is disabled by default. You can configure the InterSite Watchdog program to alert you to RAID problems such as disk failures.
3. Under Startup Type, select System; then select OK. 4. Highlight the Pcmcia device in the Device list; then select Startup. The Device dialog displays. 5. Under Startup Type, select Boot; then select OK. 6. In the Devices dialog, select Close. Booting from an External SCSI Disk Drive If your system has access to an IDE or EIDE drive, it will attempt to boot from the drive.
Finding Serial and Model Numbers The system’s serial and model numbers are on a label affixed under the top cover at the front of the chassis. The system’s serial number is also found on a bar-code label on the back panel.
Configuring the BIOS The BIOS Setup program is used to configure the system’s BIOS (basic input/output system). The BIOS is responsible for configuring the system board, CPU and providing hardware information to the operating system. For the system to run properly, run BIOS Setup after you make a hardware change to the system.
Starting BIOS Setup To start BIOS Setup: 1. Restart the system. An Intergraph Computer Systems logo displays. 2. Press 2 to start BIOS Setup. NOTE You can only start BIOS Setup during the boot sequence. NOTE You can set a password to prevent unauthorized users from accessing BIOS Setup. See “Features Screen”...
Info Screen The Info screen lists your system configuration information, as shown in the following figure. To access the Info screen, use the arrow keys to highlight Info on the BIOS Setup main menu. The information on this screen is determined by your system configuration, and cannot be changed manually.
To move between the parameters, use the up and down arrow keys. System Time To set the system time, use the key to move the prompt and select a field (hours, minutes, or seconds). Use the plus key (+) to increase the number; use the minus key ( -) to decrease the number.
Primary Master, Primary Slave, Secondary Master, Secondary Slave These options control the parameters for Integrated Device Electronic (IDE) drives. The default settings are Auto for Primary and Secondary Master, and None for Primary and Secondary Slave. If you are setting up a SCSI hard disk, set the IDE Device parameters to None (see your SCSI card manual for more details).
Multi-Sector Transfers This setting determines the number of sectors per block for multiple sector transfers. The default setting is Auto. Other settings are: Disabled, 2 Sectors, 4 Sectors, 6 Sectors, 8 Sectors and 16 Sectors. LBA Mode Control Enabling this setting causes Logical Block Addressing (LBA) to be used in place of Cylinders, Heads and Sectors.
Advanced Screen Use the Advanced screen to configure system devices. Use the left and right arrow keys to highlight Advanced on the BIOS Setup main menu. The Advanced screen displays as shown in the following figure. Plug & Play O/S When set to Yes, this setting allows your system to work with a Plug and Play operating system, such as Windows 95.
PCI/PnP ISA UMB Region Exclusion This setting reserves specific upper memory blocks for use by ISA devices. Press the up or down arrow keys to highlight the memory block, and then use the plus or minus keys to reserve it. PCI/PnP IRQ Exclusion This setting reserves specific IRQs for use by ISA devices.
Parallel Port This setting configures the operation of the parallel port. Select Disable (to disable the selected port), Enable (to allow user configuration of the selected port), Auto (to enable BIOS or OS configuration) or OS Controlled (to allow the operating system to manage the port configuration).

Features Screen The Features Screen allows you to configure the boot configuration, power management functions and the security of the system. Use the left and right arrow keys to highlight Features on the BIOS Setup main menu. The Features screen displays as shown in the following figure.

Event Logging When Enabled, this setting allows logging of DMI events. The default setting is Enabled. ECC Event Logging When Enabled, this setting allows logging of Error Checking and Correction (ECC) events. The default setting is Enabled. View DMI Event Log Highlight this setting and press to view the contents of the DMI event log.
Multiboot Use this option to display additional setup menus to configure system boot devices. Press to display the multiboot submenu. This submenu provides the following options: ENTER Hard Drive This setting tells the system to boot from the system’s hard disk drive only. Removable Devices This setting causes the system to boot from the specified order.
NOTE Before you can change the following settings, you must set the Power Savings mode to Customized. Standby Timeout This setting controls the amount of time that elapses before the system enters Standby Mode. Standby Mode turns off various devices in the system, including the display screen, until you start using the system again.
Set Supervisor Password This setting controls access to the BIOS Setup utility. Press to display the Supervisor ENTER Password submenu. Type the password, and press . Retype the password and press ENTER again. The password may be disabled by setting the new password to nothing ENTER (pressing the key without first typing a password).

The system’s BIOS can be reprogrammed using a BIOS file. You can update the BIOS by following the steps below: 1. After loading the appropriate BIOS file from Intergraph’s BBS or Web site, extract it to a bootable MS-DOS 6.x diskette.

Reinstalling System Software Follow the instructions in this appendix only if you need to reinstall the operating system and associated system software on your InterServe 80 SL. CAUTION Before you reinstall the software, ensure that you read and understand the entire chapter.

When prompted, install the Intel network driver for optional plug-in network adapter from backup diskette instead of from the operating system software CD-ROM. Select Custom Setup when prompted to select a Setup type. Select automatic detection of mass storage devices during Setup. Do not select automatic detection of network driver and allow Setup to configure the network only if the system is connected to the network.
Configuring SCSI Host Adapter Settings If you previously used the SCSI Configuration Utility on the SYSUTIL diskette to change SCSI host adapter settings, you must restore those settings after installing the Windows NT operating system and the Service Pack. Using System Resources This chapter provides information about interrupt requests (IRQs) and the basic input/output system (BIOS) when using option cards. This information is useful when you install various types of cards into the system. See the System Reference delivered with the system for additional information on system resources, such as Direct Memory Addresses (DMA), PCI and ISA interrupt lines, and IRQ allocation for specific devices.
BIOS Parameters The system uses the BIOS Setup program, which lets you customize the basic input/output system (BIOS) to suit your requirements, and allocate resources for option cards. Refer to Chapter 5, “Configuring the BIOS” for more information. System Resources The following sections list the available system resources.

Warranty Procedure Some malfunctioning equipment cannot be repaired in the field, and you must return it to Intergraph for repair. Follow these steps to obtain a Returned Goods Authorization (RGA) log number and return the malfunctioning equipment. 1. Determine the serial number of the system. The serial number is located on the white bar code identification label on the back of the base unit.
