• Listening to high fidelity stereo sound
(Direct Stereo)
Direct Slereo allows you 1o bypass this unit's decoders and
DSP processoi_s to enjoy pure high fidelity sound from 2-
channel PCM and analog sources.
Rotate PROGRAM (or press AMP to select the
AMP mode, then press STEREO repeatedly) to
select DIRECT STEREO.

You can enjoy 2=channelstereo playbackeven from multi-
channel sources.

remote control) to select 2ch Stereo.

You can use a subwoof_r with this program when SWFR or
BOTH is selected in LFE/BASS OUT.

• To avoid unexpected noise, do not play DTS-encoded CDs in
this mode.
• When multi-channel signals _Dolby Digital and DTS) are input,
this unit automatically selects an analog signal input. (When
DTS is selected as an input mode, no sound will be heard.)
• No sound will be output fi'om the subwoofEr.
• TONE CONTROL (page 31 ) and SET MENU (page 47)
settings are not et]ective.
• The front panel display automatically dims.

Listening at night
This mode reproduces dialogue clearly while reducing the
volume of loud sound effects for easier listening at low
volumes or at night.
Press NIGHT on the remote control.
The NIGHT indicator in Ihe front panel NEGro
display lights up.
Press NIGHT again m cancel. The
NIGHT indicator goes off.

Listening to unprocessed input signals
Press STRAIGHT/EFFECT 1o select STRAIGHT.
Two channel stereo sources are output from only _he front
left and right speakei_s. Multi-channel sources are decoded
straight inlo Ihe appropriate channels without any
additional effect processing.

Press STRAIGHT/EFFECT again so that "STRAIGHT"
disappears from the display when you want to turn the
sound effect back on.

• You can use the night mode with any sound field programs
except Direct Stereo (even though the NIGHT indicator lights
up during Direct Stereo mode).
• Night listening mode m_y vary in effectiveness depending on
the input source and surround sound settings you use.
