ASSEMBLY STEPS
To preventpersonal injury or property
damage, do not attempt to start the
engine until all assembly steps are
complete and you have read and
understand the safety, controls and
operatinginstructions in this manual.
INTRODUCTION
Pleasecarefullyfollow these assembly
stepsto properly prepareyour machine
for use. We recommendthat you read
this Section in its entirety before begin-
ning assembly.
NOTE:All referencesto left, right, front
and rear of the machineare determined
by standing behind the handlebarsand
facing the direction of forward travel.
INSPECTION AFTER DELIVERY
inspectthe shipping crate and machine
immediatelyafter delivery. Makesure
neitherthe carton nor the contents have
beendamaged.
if you find or suspectany damage,con-
tact the carrier (trucking company)
immediately. Inform them of the specific
damageand that you wish to file a claim.
To protectyour rights, be sure to put
this in writing to the carrierwithin 15
days. The carrierwill let you know how
to proceedwith your claim. Pleaselet us
know if you needany assistance.
STEP 1: Unpacking Mower
NOTE:LEFTand RIGHTsides of the unit
are as viewed from the operator's posi-
tion behindthe handlebars.
1. Cut straps, if present,securing unit
to pallet. Leaveunit on palletduring as-
sembly (to safely removeunit from pal-
let, wait until you havecompletedas-
sembly steps 1-4).
2. Removeany protectivepackaging
from around the handlebars.Cutthe
plastictie straps holding the control rods
and struts to the handlebars.
STEP 2: Attach Handlebars
to Engine Deck
NOTE:Fourscrews (D, Figure2-2) are
usedto connectthe handlebarsto the
engine deck. At the factory, two of these
screws (front) are threadeddirectly into
lock nuts weldedto the back sides of the
deck.The remainingtwo screws (rear)
securethe lower handleto the deck.
1. Removeand savethe two 5/16"-18 x
3/4" screws (front) mentionedin the
NOTE above.
2. Carefullypivot the handlebarsover
the engine and position the handlebar
ends (E, Figure2-2) againstthe sides of
the engine deck. Do not alloowthe han-
dlebarsto rub against the engine while
pivoting them.
3. Loosely securethe right-hand handle-

4. Removethe nut from the lower screw

sole to the handlebaron the left-hand

5. Position a handlebarstrut's smaller
hole (A, Figure2-1) over the screw (B,
Figure2-1) on the INSIDEof the con-
sole, with the strut's fiat sideagainst the
console.
6. Using the nut removedearlier,secure
the strut to the console/handlebar.

7. Align the looseend of the left-hand
handlebarstrut (A, Figure2-2) overthe
front hole in the handlebarend. Secure
the strut and handlebarto the deck with
the 5/16"-18 x 3/4" screw (D, Figure2-2)
removedearlier.
8. Removethe screw (front) that is
looselysecuring the right-handhandle-
bar end to the deck.and repeat4-7 on
the right-handside of the unit.
9. On both sides of the unit, securely
tighten the screws (D, Figure2-2) at the
lowerends of the handlebarbeforetight-
ening the screws (B & F, Figure2-1) on
the console.
STEP3: Electric Start Model
A. SecureWire Harness
1. At the unattachedend of the electrical
wire harness,there arefour wires at-
tached to a large plasticconnectorand
two wires attachedto a small plastic
connector.
