Section 4: Operation
BLADEBRAKECONTROL TEST
Whenthe OperatorPresenceControl
is releasedduring operationof the
mower,the engine doesnot stop, but
the bladesshould stop within three (3)
seconds. The following test providesa
visual test of whether the BladeBrake
Control System is functioning. Perform
this test beforeeachuse of the mower.
1. Park mower on a portion of lawn
which has not beenrecentlymowed.
2. Setthe cutting height so the mower
cuts 1/3 of the grass height.
To avoid personal injury or property
damage, make sure that the mower is
on grass,and that thetest area is clear
of foreign objects and bystandersbe-
fore you beginthe Blade Brake Control
Test.
If the OperatorPresenceControlor the
Blade Drive Control are not adjusted
correctly, the blades may continueto
rotate after release of the Operator
PresenceControl. If the blades do not
stopwithinthree (3) secondsof release
ofthe Operator PresenceControl,move
the EngineThrottleControlto the STOP
position, disconnect the spark plug
wire, and movethe wire away from the
sparkplug. Do not operatethe mower
until the Blade Brake Control System
hasbeen repaired.
Failure to do this could result in per-
sonalinjuryor propertydamage.
3. Starf the engine.
4. Pressthe OperatorPresenceControl
down againstthe handlebargrip and
pushthe BladeDrive Control fully for-
ward until it stays in the engagedposi-
tion.
5. Putthe GearSelectLever in the No.
setting.
6. Engage the wheelswith the Wheel
Drive Control and drive the mower for
severalfeet. Then releasethe Operator
PresenceControl.
A. Look at the lawn just mowed.The
lawnshould be cut up to the point
wherethe OperatorPresenceControl
was released.
B. Pressthe OperatorPresenceControl
againstthe handlebargrip but DO
NOTre-engagethe BladeDrive
Control. Drive the mower forward
for several morefeet. Release the
OperatorPresenceControland look
at the lawn. Thegrass should NOT
havebeencut. This indicatesthat
the OperatorPresenceControl has
disengagedthe blade driveand
stopped the blades.
7. If the mower cuts the grass in Step
6-B, the OperatorPresenceControl is
NOTdisengagingthe blade drive.
Immediatelystopthe engine,discon-
nectthesparkplug wire, and movethe
wireaway from thesparkplug.
8. Do not usethe mower until the Blade
BrakeControl System hasbeen in-
spected,adjustedor repairedby an au-
thorized dealer.
