Frequently asked questions

System Backup and Restore

What is the basic purpose of System Backup and Re-
store?
The basic purpose of System Backup and Restore is to save a
snapshot of the entire Solaris and Xerox FreeFlow Print Server
disk for recovery at a later time. System Backup and Restore is
useful for restoring the system quickly after the corruption of the
software.
What does System Backup save?
System Backup makes a snapshot or image of the entire disk,
including the operating system and Xerox FreeFlow Print Server
software. The image is saved in a special protected/unmounted
partition, /XRXBackup, on the Xerox FreeFlow Print Server hard
disk, SCSI tape drive, or Unix file system.
How big are the files?
The System Backup partition varies based on the hard disk drive
size and can be deselected at the time of installation. Size is
automatically selected based on the size of the hard disk drive.
Where are the files saved?
System files can only be saved to the /XRXBackup partition on the
Xerox FreeFlow Print Server hard drive.
How long does the process take?
A system backup may take over an hour to complete.
What schedule should be used?
System information should be backed up biweekly or monthly.
Only one version of the system image can be maintained at a
time.
