Drag the pick whip to the desired element, either in its viewer (such as the Timelines Viewer or the Menu Editor),
the Timeline, Menu, or Project panels, or the Flowchart. Be aware that the pick whip behaves a bit differently,
depending on where it's dragged. For example, if you drag the pick whip to a timeline in the Flowchart, the link is
established to chapter 1 by default. To link to a specific chapter using the pick whip, drag it to the chapter marker
visible in the Timelines Viewer. In other words, when using the pick whip, you link to what you see—if you see
only the element icon, you create a link to chapter 1 of the timeline, or the default button of a menu; if you see the
element's chapters or buttons, you can link to the them. (Try creating different types of links by dragging to the
same element in different panels, to get a feel for using the pick whip.)

If desired, specify a link transition, end action, and override.

To set disc properties and navigation
While most navigation deals with moving among the content on the DVD, there are a few DVD-wide settings and
links you need to set. To set disc properties and navigation, you use the Properties panel in conjunction with the Disc
panel.
1
Click the Disc panel.
In the Properties panel, enter a new name into the Disc Name field. The default name is DVDVolume.
2
3
In the Description field, type any notes about the project, such as client information, revision notes, and
reminders.
Select a destination for First Play. Often, this will be an FBI warning or other copyright information. Adobe
4
Encore DVD automatically sets the First Play to the first DVD element you create—generally, you'll need to reset it.
5
Select a destination for Title Button. You generally set the Title Button to return the viewer to the main menu of
the DVD.

About buttons and navigation
The buttons on a menu are the primary navigation tool for the viewer. They control how the viewer steps through
the DVD. Each button in a menu must lead to another menu, a timeline, a playlist, a chapter playlist, or a slide show.
You set the navigational links of a button and the optional end action override of that link in the Button mode of the
Properties panel.
Note: In addition to the linking options for all other assets, you can set a button link to Resume, which returns viewers
to the point at which they accessed the menu.
