When specifying a button link, you can also specify a link transition. Link transitions are actually

short-duration assets that play when a button link is invoked, before the linked asset plays. In Hollywood discs, for
example, when you click a button on the main menu to access a submenu, often the main menu "dissolves" into the
submenu. This dissolve is achieved by playing a video asset that contains the transition frames. Typically, the
transition frames are created in an application such as Adobe After Effects or Adobe Premiere Pro, where they're
rendered as movie files.

Setting navigation and properties

To specify a link
Adobe Encore DVD offers many ways to create and manage links. The Properties panel provides complete control
over linking, letting you use menus or the pick whip to choose link destinations. You can also work with links in the
element viewers and Flowchart panels. Generally, most users work with the Properties panel in conjunction with
other panels (often the Flowchart), using either the pick whip or menu selection as desired.
You can also specify the link for a button by dragging the destination element from the Project panel onto the button
in the Menu Viewer.
Select the element for which you are setting the link. For example, if you are setting the destination link for a
1
button, you can select the button in the Menu editor or in the Menus panel.

In the Properties panel, select a destination for the link by using one of the following methods:
Choose a destination from the [link type] menu (including Link, End Action, and Override menus), and then
choose the desired content (such as button, in the case of a menu, or a slide if linking to a slide show) from the
submenu that appears. The [link type] menus list up to 20 of the most recently used menus and other DVD
elements. If the element you want is not listed, choose Specify Link as described below. (Choosing Default for a
button leaves the default button highlighted on the destination menu.) Additional choices in the [link type] menu
include the following:
Returns the viewer to the same destination.
Link Back to Here
Returns the viewer to the most recently accessed menu.
Return to Last Menu
Returns the viewer to the most recently viewed content (excluding menus), and plays that content from the
Resume
point at which it was last viewed. A Resume button works well on audio and subtitle track selection menus, which
viewers often access while viewing content.
Choose Specify Link from the Link menu. Select the desired link destination from the dialog box that appears and
then click OK. (To leave the default button unchanged, select the menu name rather than a button.)
