Mbit
Megabit.
MIB
(SNMP terminology) Management Information Base. Detailed
information about MIBs can be found from RFC1155-SMI,
RFC1212-CMIB and RFC1213-MIB2.
MIME
Multipurpose Internet Mail Extension, a standard system for
identifying the type of data contained in a file based on its extension.
MIME is an Internet protocol that allows you to send binary files
across the Internet as attachments to e-mail messages. These files
include graphics, photos, sound and video files, and formatted text
documents.
Multicast traffic
Multicast traffic comes from one specific host (usually a server) and
goes to a multicasting group. In IP (Internet Protocol) valid groups
use the multicasting networking addresses (224.0.0.0 to
239.255.255.255) defined for IP. Management of group membership
and multicast traffic forwarding in switches and routers is done by the
IGMP (Internet Group Management Protocol).
Netmask
Tells how the IP-address is divided into the network portion and to the
host portion.
Network
Two or more computers connected together in order to share
resources. Two or more networks connected together is an internet.
Packet
A packet is the unit of data that is routed between an origin and a
destination on the Internet. When any file (e.g. an email message) is
sent from one place to another on the Internet, the file is divided into
packets of an efficient size for routing. When they have all arrived,
they are reassembled into the original file at the receiving end.
