2.4.3 Material damage and malfunctions — Measuring system
Material damage due to contamination!
An accumulation of ferromagnetic material between the measuring surface and the
teeth of the target wheel may result in the MiniCODER not being able to clearly de-
tect the transition from tooth to tooth space.
● Clean the MiniCODER and target wheel in case of contamination.
Material damage due to incorrect handling of the target wheel!
Mechanical inaccuracies in the tooth cycle, tooth form and concentricity impair mea-
suring accuracy.
● Only use the target wheel as a measuring scale so that the teeth are not subject
to wear and tear.
● Handle the target wheel with care to avoid damaging the toothing.
Material damage due to incorrect air gap!
1. An enlarged air gap has a negative effect on measuring accuracy (signal ampli-
tudes may be too small).
2. An excessive air gap can result in loss of the measuring signal.
3. A reduced air gap results in overloading and thus to possible pulse losses.
4. If the air gap is very small, the target wheel may come into contact with and dam-
age the measuring surface due to radial runout.
● Ensure that the air gap is within the permissible range under all operating con-
ditions (air gap table
● Only use the supplied distance gauge.
Material damage due to incorrect installation position!
An incorrect installation position of the target wheel in relation to the sensor ele-
ments of the MiniCODER results in incorrect measured values being sent to the
evaluation electronics.
● Mount the measuring system so that the reference track and the signal track of
the target wheel match the corresponding sensor elements in the MiniCODER
(installation position of MiniCODER and target wheel
