Quincy QIFD refrigerated compressed air dryers are designed to reduce
the moisture content of compressed air and gases in an industrial opera-
tion. All Quincy QIFD compressed air dryers are equipped with R134a
ozone-friendly refrigerant and either exclusive electronically controlled
no-loss drain or automatic float drain (QIFD 0010 & 0015) as standard.
The QIFD compressed air dryer is used to condense and remove
water in the air stream to prevent contamination or damage to the sys-
tem and products. Three stages of cooling, drying and separation are
used to remove liquids from the air stream. The QIFD provides pressure
dew point of 35° to 38°F.
The QIFD works in three stages to cool and dry the compressed air.
First, the compressed air passes through an air to air heat exchanger,
where cold, dry air from the dryer is used to pre-cool the incoming air. In
the second stage of drying, the compressed air passes through an air to
refrigerant heat exchanger, where it is cooled to 35°F. At this point,
water vapor in the air is condensed and mechanically separated to be
discharged through the condensate drain. The third and final stage is
the reheater. In this stage the cool, dry air is warmed by the incoming
wet air in the air-to-air heat exchanger. This warming ensures that no
moisture will form on the outsides of the compressed air pipe, and recov-
ers energy lost during the cooling process. The dryer will operate under
a partial load when compressed air throughput or compressed inlet air
temperatures decrease.
