Refrigerant Handling

QIFD 0010 - QIFD 0080
52401-100, December 2000
• Use proper tools for maintenance and repair work.
• Use genuine Quincy spare parts only.
• Do not attempt to service any part of the unit while it is operating.
• Lockout/tagout per OSHA regulation 1910.147 before attempting to
service any part of the unit.
• Do not operate the unit with any of its safety guards, shields or screens
removed.
• Never use flammable solvents for cleaning the unit or its parts.
• Keep the work environment clean during maintenance or repair. Keep
parts and openings free of dirt by covering with clean cloth, paper or
adhesive tape.
• Never weld on a pressure vessel or modify it in any way.
• Ensure that all tools, loose parts or debris have been removed from the
dryer and work area prior to start up of the system.
• Wear eye protection and protective gloves.
• Avoid contact of liquid refrigerants with your skin (frostbite potential).
• Do not breathe highly concentrated refrigerant vapors. Wear protec-
tive respirator.
• All work areas must be well ventilated to avoid high concentrations of
vapor. Opening windows and doors may not be sufficient. An exhaust
system must be used directly at the supply point or near the floor.
• Do not smoke in or near refrigerant filling operations. Severe damage
or death can occur.
• Do not allow refrigerant vapors to escape into the environment during
filling or repair work.
• Evacuate the room immediately and only re-enter after the room has
been sufficiently ventilated when refrigerant concentrations (e.g. pipe
line leakages) occur.
• Before welding and soldering near refrigerated systems, drain refriger-
ant from the system component and dispose of properly.
• Perform welding and soldering operations on refrigerated equipment
only in well ventilated rooms. Refrigerants can decompose and become
toxic.
