The status LEDs on the Emerson FB3000 CPU module provide critical information about its operational status. Here's a summary of key indications:
It is highly recommended to maintain backups of your Emerson FB3000 RTU's configuration, data, and applications for disaster recovery. Backups should be performed after any configuration or application modifications, and historical data should be backed up regularly.
To back up historical data and configuration:
Services > Firmware Update.Configuration Save to save the RTU's configuration to a file on your laptop.History Collection to save the historical data contained in the RTU on your laptop. To back up your solution (configuration files and applications):
File > Upload Solution.Browse to specify the save location and file name for the uploaded solution file (*.ZSL), then click Save.Upload. This may take several minutes. Click Close once complete.Note: While historical data can be backed up to a PC, there is no mechanism for restoring it to the RTU; this backup is for auditing or other purposes.
The Emerson FB3000 RTU is powered by an external DC input, supporting both 12V and 24V power supplies with a voltage range of 10.5 Vdc to 30 Vdc. The amount of power required depends on the options used. If your installation includes multiple chassis, power should only be wired to the left-most (base) chassis. Ensure the polarity of the DC input voltage wiring connections matches the diagram provided in the manual. If polarity is accidentally reversed, an internal fuse and switch will protect the device, and the switch will reset automatically once polarity is corrected, allowing for proper operation. External power connections are illustrated in Figure 2-17. External Power Connections.
To upgrade the system firmware on your Emerson FB3000 RTU, you must have a valid username/password combination and ensure the operation is performed in a non-hazardous area. Also, switch any processes controlled by the RTU to a manual/backup system.
Here are the steps:
Services > Firmware Update.Solution Upload to save the RTU's configuration to a file.History Report to save the historical data contained in the RTU.Firmware Update.Browse and select the zip file containing your new system firmware (do not unzip it). The grid will update with current and new firmware versions.Selected column for the desired firmware. If downloading the same version, select Download selected packages even if they are unchanged. To update the RTU's clock, click Time Sync device after the download.Start to begin the download. If you cancel before completion, the system restores the current version. A successful upgrade results in a warm start of the running application. To communicate with the Emerson FB3000 using a laptop via a serial port, your laptop must have Field Tools software with FBxConnect software installed, and you must know a valid username/password combination for the RTU. The steps are:
The Emerson FB3000 12-channel mixed I/O module (3MIX12/3MSG12) includes eight channels that can be individually configured as analog inputs (AI), digital inputs (DI), or pulse inputs (PI) using FBxConnect software. When configured as analog inputs, channels have the following characteristics:
Unconnected analog inputs will report an alarm condition. Wiring examples for 1-5VDC or 4-20mA using an external voltage/current source are shown in Figure 3-1. Analog Input (AI) Wiring Using 1-5VDC or 4-20mA.
The Emerson FB3000 uses 3V lithium coin cell batteries for SRAM and real-time clock backup. You do not need to power down the unit to replace these batteries.

Important Notes:
The Emerson FB3000 12-channel mixed I/O module (3MIX12/3MSG12) includes two dedicated digital output (DO) channels. When configured as digital outputs, they act as simple contact closures:
The Emerson FB3000 8-slot chassis supports up to 3 additional extension chassis. When connecting an extension chassis to the base chassis (which contains the CPU module), use only the right-hand side connector of the base chassis; the FB3000 base chassis cannot support an extension chassis using the left-hand connector. A 4-slot chassis can serve as a single base chassis or as the last extension chassis in an 8-slot chassis assembly, but cannot have an extension chassis itself as it lacks a right-hand connector.
Installation Steps:
Important Considerations:
To wire COM1 for RS-232 communication on the Emerson FB3000 CPU module (3CPU16/3CPUSG), you will connect the CPU module to another device using a cable with specific configurations. The communication ports allow connection to a PC or laptop running FBxConnect software or other devices.
Wiring Configuration for RS-232:
Ensure you connect cable shields to a suitable Instrument Earth connection point. You must also use FBxConnect software to configure the COM1 port for RS-232 usage. The wiring diagram is shown in Figure 2-20. Wiring COM1 on the CPU Module for RS-232.
