4.2 Control Panel Buttons and Indicators

These controls allow all operations to be initiated.
Joystick - Used to move the piezo motor currently selected - see Section 4.3. Also
used to move through the various set up menu options - see Section 4.4.
Digital Display - Under normal operation, the display shows the step count of each
motor, together with the motor channel currently selected. It also shows the menu
options and settings, accessed via the menu button - see Section 4.4. When the
Ident button on the associated GUI panel is clicked, the display text 'KIM101' at
the top of the display will flash for a short period.
MENU - used to access the settings menu - see Section 4.4.
CHANNEL SELECT - Used to select the appropriate motor channel.

4.3 Joystick Operation

The joystick on top of the unit provides multi-function operation. In normal use the
joystick is used to move the selected axis, at a velocity that is proportional to its
deflection from the central position. In this central position the piezo inertia motor is
stationary. As the joystick is moved away from the centre, the motor begins to move.
Directional control of the motor is achieved by moving the joystick in both directions
(left and right for CH1 and CH3, or up and down for CH2 and CH4). Where pairs of
axes are enabled, both axes will move simultaneously as a function of joystick
deflection.
