DRAWBARS FOR UPPER AND LOWER MANUALS

u PRESET KEYS AND DRAWBARS
At the left end of each manual are twelve keys identical to the play-
ing keys except reversed m color. These are the Preset Keys.
Each Preset Key, with the exception of the "A#" and "B" Adjust
Keys at the extreme right of the group, makes available a different
tone color which is drawn from the inbuilt Patch Library. The
Preset Keys can also be used to store your own settings.
NOTE: When recalling a patch, the positions of the Drawbars will
change internally, but not physically. When a Drawbar is moved,
the Patch setting will update to that Drawbar's current position
(P. 124).

There are five sets of Drawbars at your disposal, two sets for each
Manual and one set for the Pedals. The Upper Drawbars are on
the Left side of the Control Panel, immediately above the Upper
Manual. There are 2 sets of 9 Drawbars each, corresponding to the
the "A#" and "B" Adjust Keys of the Upper Manual. The 2 Pedal
Drawbars are in the center. To the right are the Lower Drawbars,
again, 2 sets of 9 Drawbars each, corresponding to the the "A#" and
"B" Adjust Keys of the Lower Manual.
When either the "A#" or "B" Adjust Key is engaged (red LED lit),
the instrument will sound with whatever registration is set up on
the Drawbars associated with that key (see the diagram above).
NOTE: The Percussion effect is introduced when the Upper Man-
ual "B" Adjust Preset is engaged.
NOTE: Normally the Drawbars will only change the tone when
either the "A#" or "B" Adjust Presets are selected. However, you
can set the Drawbars so that the "A#" Drawbar set will change the
Drawbar registration of any selected Preset. See page 124 for
instructions on how to do this.
The first white Drawbar represents the "fundamental" or "8' base"
tone. All of the other white Drawbars are octave intervals or har-
monics of the fundamental tone. The tonal brilliance is greatly
increased by adding white Drawbars, but the harmonics added are
always in "consonance" or harmony.
The black Drawbars represent the "dissonant" harmonics which are
also necessary in building rich tone colors. The mellowness of a
horn, the pungency of strings, and the brilliance of reed voices owe
much of their character to the presence of these harmonics in differ-
ent degrees.
The two brown Drawbars on the far left give depth and richness to
the sound. The left 16´ is one octave lower than the 8´, and 51/3´ is
the third harmonic of the 16´ fundamental. Normally, the tones are
built on the 8' fundamental, but, if you want to add depth to the
tone or to expand the playing range by one octave lower, build your
tones on the 16´ fundamental.
NOTE: The Colors of the Drawbars are traditional to Hammond,
and were established to provide a quick visual guide to the har-
monics generated by the Drawbars.
