These instructions for use provide important information on the fitting and
application of the 50R59 Dorso Direxa Posture thoracolumbar orthosis.
2 Application
2.1 Intended Use
The orthosis is intended exclusively for orthotic fittings of the trunk and
exclusively for contact with intact skin.
The orthosis must be used according to the indications and following the
instructions of a physician.
2.2 Indications
Poor body posture (hunchback without fused vertebrae, Scheuermann's
disease)
Osteoporosis of the thoracic and lumbar spine
Aftercare of osteoporotic fractures of the thoracic and/or lumbar spine
Back pain (lumbar and lower thoracic spine), sciatica, muscular imbal­
ance of the thoracic and lumbar spine, thoracic and lumbar spine liga­
ment sprain
Slight degenerative changes of the thoracic and lumbar spine (e.g.
osteochondrosis, facet joint syndrome)
Indications must be determined by the physician.
2.3 Contraindications
2.3.1 Absolute Contraindications
Not known.
2.3.2 Relative contraindications
The following indications require consultation with a physician: skin dis­
eases/injuries, inflammation, raised scars with swelling, reddening and
warming of the treated body areas, tumours, lymphatic flow disorders -
including unclear soft tissue swelling in areas distant to where the device is
applied, sensitivity disorders in the arms and legs.
2.4 Effects
The orthosis supports muscular stabilisation of the thoracic spine and
straightens it actively. It promotes sensorimotor functions, supports pain
relief and relieves the thoracic spine through active straightening and mus­
cular stabilisation and the lumbar spine by increasing intra-abdominal pres­
sure and providing external stabilisation.
