1) Fitting the metal rods (see Fig. 1): Remove the 2 metal rods from the
pockets and fit them to the spine individually. Put the metal rods back in
the pockets.
2) Optional – install the pad (see Fig. 2): Use the hook and loop closure
to attach the pad to the inside of the orthosis so that it is at least 1 cm
above the seat surface when seated.
3) Application: Place the upper part of orthosis over the shoulders like a
backpack (see Fig. 3). Place the lower part of the orthosis around the
trunk. Place the fingers in the hand straps of the abdominal closure.
Apply equal force to both sides to pull the orthosis forward (see Fig. 4).
4) Hook and loop material: Attach the right part to the top of the left part
of the abdominal closure (see Fig. 5). Remove the fingers from the left
and then from the right hand strap. Ensure that the hook and loop mater­
ial sections lie flat against each other and are not in contact with clothing
or skin. Route the ends of the shoulder strap to the front around the
chest (see Fig. 6) and secure the hook and loop closure below the chest
(see Fig. 7).
5) Increasing compression: Pull the ends of the elastic straps forward
(see Fig. 8) and attach them to the bottom closure (see Fig. 9).
6) Final check: The correct fit and proper positioning of the orthosis must
be checked during handover to the patient. The orthosis is seated cor­
rectly when the lower edge of the orthosis extends just below the groin.
7) Instruct the patient: Explain to the patient how to don the orthosis and
ensure that it is seated correctly. Practice donning and doffing of the
orthosis with the patient.
4.3 Cleaning
Clean the orthosis regularly.
1) Remove the metal rods. Close all hook and loop closures.
2) Recommendation: Use a laundry bag or net.
3) Wash the orthosis in warm water at 40 °C with standard mild detergent.
Do not use fabric softener. Rinse thoroughly.
4) Allow to air dry. Do not expose to direct heat (e.g. from the sun, an oven
or radiator).
5 Disposal
Dispose of the product in accordance with national regulations.
