11.3 Unusual water levels– remedying a fault
It is normal that the water levels fluctuate in the chambers of SBR wastewater treatment plant.
The water levels depend on the supplied quantity, the time of day, and/or the current step of the
treatment cycle.
Observation
Unusually low water
level making the lifter's
inlet visible
Only for plants larger
than 10 PE:
The water level in the
first stage (preliminary
cleaning) reaches to the
emergency overflow, but
is normal in the aeration
section.
The water level in all
chambers reaches to the
emergency overflow.
The plant overflows.
11. Fault messages and rectification
Possible cause
No adequate refilling after
sludge removal
Tank leaking
Unusually large supply (e.g. af-

The charging lifter (valve 1) not
activating
The runtime set for the charging
lifter is too short
The charging lifter is blocked
The air supply to the feed lifter
is leaking.
Plant running in holiday mode
although house again occupied
Plant runs in level dependent
mode and "Cycle pause" ap-

water levels are high
Unusually large supply (e.g. af-

Tank's outlet pipe blocked, or in-

Flooding in the discharging sys-

Clear water lifter is blocked
Air supply to clear water lifter

Rectification
Continue refilling and observe
tank
If necessary, notify specialist
Continue observing water level; it
should normalise over the course
of one day
In manual mode, test valve 1
Notify specialist
Have the settings checked by a
specialist
Try to wash the lifter back with a
garden hose
Pump off chamber and clean
lifter
Tighten hose clips according to
feeling
End holiday mode
Notify specialist to check the
level measurements
Continue observing water level; it
should normalise over the course
of one day; otherwise notify spe-
cialist
Test outflow lifter in manual
mode and check whether water
can discharge
Notify specialist
Wait for flooding to drain away
Try to wash the lifter back with a
garden hose
Pump off chamber and clean
lifter
Tighten hose clips according to
feeling
Have the settings checked by a
