About current indicator calibration

Calibrating the echo sounder system for current indicator measurements ensures that the
accuracy is maintained. Calibration must be taken seriously. To achieve the best results,
the calibration must be planned and done carefully.
Note
The calibration is important as it will reveal inaccuracies related to the transducer
alignment. The calibration process will detect and measure such inaccuracies, and feed
the information back into the echo sounder system. This will ensure optimal system
performance after calibration.
The calibration of the current indicator functionality is normally done at sea immediately
after leaving dry dock. The calibration process requires you to set up the echo sounder
system with specific settings. Data collection is done while using a specific sailing
pattern that includes "Williamson" turns. A"Williamson" turn means that you shall
steer the boat around with the intent of running alongside the location where the turn
pattern was first initiated.
The actual calibration process is done after the data collection is completed. This
processing is done by the

system files are done automatically.
A suitable location must be selected before the calibration can start. The following
requirements must be met:
• Depth: 100 metres (Depth variations between 50 and 250 metres are accepted.)
