Introduction Introduction Topics About current indicator calibration, page 7 Calibration summary, page 8 Support information, page 9 About current indicator calibration Calibrating the echo sounder system for current indicator measurements ensures that the accuracy is maintained. Calibration must be taken seriously. To achieve the best results, the calibration must be planned and done carefully.
Simrad Echo sounder system Instruction manual • Seafloor: Smooth • Sea conditions: Calm The quality of the calibration and measurements depend on the quality of the sensors connected to the echo sounder system. The basic calibration of scale and yaw is made by comparing the Course Over Ground (COG) and Speed Over Ground (SOG) data from the current indicator and the GPS.

Preparations Context Any information in a datagram, for example, the vessel speed, may be provided in different datagrams from several sensors. Due to several reasons (environmental conditions, installation, configuration, accuracy, etc.), the numerical values provided can be different from one sensor to another. The term datagram has been defined as follows: A self-contained, independent entity of data carrying sufficient information to be routed from the source to the destination computer without reliance on earlier...

Preparations For each beam, verify that the information pane displays a valid depth. Open the ADCP information pane. Verify that speed over ground (SOG) and course over ground (COG) data is provided in the information pane. The measurement is shown as a grey arrow. The length of the arrow indicates the speed.
Simrad Echo sounder system Instruction manual Preparing the echo sounder system for current indicator calibration Prior to velocity measurement calibration you must check that your echo sounder system is fully functional. Prerequisites Neither tools nor instruments are required. Context A fully functional echo sounder system is vital for a successful calibration. Procedure Make sure that the echo sounder system with all transceivers and transducers are installed correctly.
