ASSEMBLY & INSTALLATION
The bench-top swager is pre-assembled.
You can adjust the closed position of the swagger head' s jaws by turning the
stop screw (A). The jaws should just touch to avoid damaging the tool.
MOUNT THE SWAGER ON A WOOD WORKBENCH
The hardware to mount the tool is not included.
1.
Clean the work area where the tool will be mounted.
2.
Position the swager. Check that it is level and there are no obstructions
around it.
3.
Slide a flat washer over a 1/4 in. diameter wood screw that is long enough
to penetrate the benchtop at least a 1/2 in. Insert the screw through a
corner hole in the base and secure the base to the bench top.
4.
Repeat with three more screws at the other corners. Insert screws on
either side. Tighten all screws until the gap between the swager' s base
and the bench top is 1/8 in.

OPERATION

The swager compresses a sleeve around two wire ropes to create a secure
connection. The sleeve material fills in any gaps in the wire rope windings,
creating a secure connection that won't slip. You can create a loop from a
single wire rope or join two wire rope ends together in a lap splice.
Crimping must only be done on the bare wire. Remove any coating such as
plastic or vinyl from area being cut or crimped.
SLEEVES AND CABLE STOPS
Sleeve sizes match the wire rope' s diameter. A mismatched sleeve either
won't allow the wire rope through the holes or the sleeve will be too large
and won't safely secure the ropes when compressed.
Sleeves are available in hourglass (double barrel) or oval shapes.
Hourglass sleeves have a distinct figure-8 appearance. Each hole is slightly
wider than the wire rope diameter.
Oval sleeves have one large opening that accommodate both wire rope
lengths. Often these are used to create a wire loop and can substitute for a
cable stop when properly crimped.
A cable stop is attached to the tag end of a wire rope. It acts as a back-up
method to prevent the wire rope from sliding through the crimped sleeve in
the event of a sleeve failure. It also prevents a wire rope end from fraying.
