Operating safety

& WARNING Risk of accident due to mal-
functions or system failures
If you do not have the prescribed service/
maintenance work or any required repairs car-
ried out, this could result in malfunctions or
system failures.
Always have the prescribed service‑ and
#
maintenance work or any required
repairs carried out in a qualified work-
shop.
& WARNING Risk of accident or injury due
to improper modifications to electronic
components
Modifications to electronic components, their
software or wiring can impair their functional-
ity and/or the functionality of other networked
components or safety-relevant systems.
This can endanger the vehicle's operating
safety.
You must not tamper with wiring, elec-
#
tronic components, or their software.
Always have work on electrical and elec-
#
tronic devices carried out at a qualified
specialist workshop.
If you modify the on-board electronics, the gen-
eral operating permit is rendered invalid.
Observe the "On-board electronics" section in
"Technical data".
* NOTE Impairment of the operating effi-
ciency of the vehicle or individual compo-
nents due to tampering with the on-board
electronics
The vehicle is equipped by the manufacturer
with various safety mechanisms that interact
with each other.
General notes
If the system detects tampering with the on-
board electronics due to an unauthorised
modification of control units and/or their soft-
ware/data, this may have the following
effects:
Individual vehicle functions are (tempora-
R
rily) no longer operational.
The overall vehicle is (temporarily) no lon-
R
ger operational.
Have the vehicle checked immediately at
#
a qualified specialist workshop and, if
necessary, reset to factory settings.
* NOTE Damage to the vehicle due to driv-
ing too fast and due to impacts to the
vehicle underbody and suspension com-
ponents
In the following situations, in particular, there
is a risk of damage to the vehicle:
the vehicle becomes grounded, e.g. on a

high kerb or an unpaved road
