The system can display up to two traffic signs
simultaneously. The system always prioritises dis-
playing speed limits. Up to one traffic sign with a
maximum permissible speed can be shown in the
head-up display. If two speed signs are shown in
the driver's display, forexample when speed limits
are detected, the value of left-hand speed limit
is transmitted to the limiter, cruise control or
Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC for adoption
and is shown in the head-up display.

Vehicles with a standard Instrument Display: a
+ symbol next to a traffic sign in the Instru-
ment Display indicates that additional traffic
signs have been detected. These can also be
displayed in the media display and optionally
in the head-up display.
If the traffic sign assistant cannot determine the
maximum permitted speed (e.g.due to missing
signage), the following display appears:
This is displayed continuously if the vehicle is in a
country where Traffic Sign Assist is not supported.
Traffic Sign Assist is not available in all countries.

Warning when approaching pedestrian crossings
The system can warn you if you approach a
pedestrian crossing with your vehicle. The ¯

The warning occurs only if appropriate traffic
signs or lane markings are detected and pedes-
trians are present in the danger zone.
System limits
The system may be impaired or inoperative, par-
ticularly in the following situations:
If there is poor visibility, e.g. due to insufficient

illumination of the road, highly variable shade
conditions, rain, snow, fog or heavy spray.
If there is glare, e.g. from oncoming traffic,
R
direct sunlight or reflections.
If there is dirt on the windscreen in the vicinity
R
of the multifunction camera or if the camera is
misted up, damaged or obscured.
If the traffic signs are hard to detect, e.g. due
R
to dirt, snow or insufficient lighting, or
page 369).

If the information on the navigation system's

digital map is incorrect or out of date.
If signs are ambiguous, e.g. road signs in road-
