POWER SUPPLY

AC ADAPTOR

The supplied AC adaptor is suitable for use on AC main supplies of AC 100240V 50/60Hz and should only be connected to a mains supply within these parameters.

  • The AC adaptor included with this unit is for its use only. Do not use it with other equipment.
  • Turn off the unit before unplugging the AC adaptor from the unit so as to avoid the unit being damaged.
  • When the unit is not going to be used for long time, disconnect the AC adaptor from the AC outlet.
  • Be sure to use it near the wall outlet and easily accessible. If a malfunction occurs, disconnect the plug from the wall outlet at once.
  • AC adaptor is used as the disconnect device. It shall remain readily operable and should not be obstructed during intended use. To be completely disconnected the apparatus from supply mains, the AC adaptor of the apparatus shall be disconnected from the mains socket outlet completely.
  • Never use an AC adaptor that is damaged, route power lead in a safe manner and make sure it is not subjected to trapping or pinching. If the power lead is damaged refer to a qualified service agent.

BACKUP SYSTEM

DC: 2x1.5V, battery type AAA/R03/UM4 (not provided) for back-up.

For optimal performance, alkaline batteries are recommended. These batteries must be replaced every six months.

Install the batteries in their compartment. Use only the size and type of batteries specified. Respect the polarity indicated in the compartment. Improper polarity can cause damage to the device. In order to avoid leakage, remove the batteries when unit will not be used for a long period of time. Do not mix different types of batteries or old batteries with new ones.


Danger of explosion if battery is incorrectly replaced. Replace only with the same or equivalent type.

All settings are memorized, however, the clock time could occasionally need to be readjusted.

Note: The normal function of the product may be disturbed by strong ElectroMagnetic Interference. If so, simply reset the product to resume normal operation by following the instruction manual. In case the function could not resume, please use the product in other location.

TURN ON/ OFF THE UNIT

In standby mode, press once to turn on the unit. Press and hold for 2 seconds to turn off the unit.

SELECTION FUNCTION

When the unit is on, repeatedly press SOURCE button to select desired mode: AUX, Bluetooth, DAB or FM.

ADJUSTING VOLUME

To increase or decrease the sound level, press or .

SETTING THE TIME AND DATE

The first time you listen to DAB/ DAB+ radio, the time and date of the unit will synchronized automatically to the broadcast by the DAB service in 24 hour mode, which is in line with daylight saving.

  1. Press and hold the MENU/INFO button to access setting mode.
  2. Repeatedly press to go to <SYSTEM>, press SELECT to enter this option.
  3. Repeatedly press to enter <TIME>, press SELECT to confirm, then <SET TIME/DATE> is displayed, press SELECT again to enter this option.
  4. The hour digits will flash. Use the to set the hour. Press the SELECT button to confirm. Then the minute digits will flash. Use the to set the minutes. Press the SELECT button to confirm.
  5. <SET DATE> is displayed, Day will flash. Use the and SELECT button to set the day, month and year.

When you confirm the date. "SAVED" is displayed and the display returns to <SET TIME/DATE >.
You can use and SELECT button to set followings:

  • SET TIME FORMAT: 12/24 hour clock display;
  • SET DATE FORMAT: DD-MM-YYYY or MM-DD-YYYY.
  • AUTO UPDATE: Auto update the time from the DAB signal, FM signal, ANY (DAB or FM signal) or no update.

Note: When do the setting in the menu, press the MENU/INFO button to return back to previous step.

LISTEN TO DAB/DAB+ RADIO

  1. When selected DAB/DAB+ mode, the unit will start automatic scan for DAB/DAB+ stations if it's the first time to use. A progress bar will show the progress of the scan and the number of stations found during the scan will also be displayed.
  2. When the scan is complete, the unit will select the first available station and start to play automatically. Stations will be listed in numerical and then alphabetical order by default.
    Note: When the DAB/DAB+ radio station list is stored, it will not search automatically again. Press SCAN button to search and list station.
  3. Use to select through the list of stations.
  4. When the desired station is displayed, press the SELECT button to confirm. There will be a short delay while your radio tunes to your selected station.

Note:

  • If no broadcasts are found by DAB/DAB+ scan, "NO DAB" appears in the display.
  • For a better reception, extend the telescopic antenna or do the full scan again in another place.
  • During the search operation, the sound level is automatically muted.

LISTENING TO FM RADIO

In FM radio mode, press to tune manually. press and hold to automatic search.
Note: For a better reception, extend the telescopic antenna.

PRESET STATIONS

This unit can store 10 FM and 10 DAB/DAB+ stations.

  1. Repeatedly press SOURCE button to select FM or DAB/DAB+ mode.
  2. Select a radio station.
  3. Press and hold PRESET button to enter preset store mode.
  4. Use to select a channel.
    Note: If you choose a station that hasn't been allocated, "EMPTY" will be displayed. If the station has been allocated before, the frequency will be showed.
  5. Press SELECT button to save it. "STORED" will be displayed.
  6. Repeat step 2-5 to store other stations.

LISTENING TO RADIO PRESETS

  1. Press SOURCE button to select FM or DAB/DAB+ band.
  2. Press PRESET once. Use to select your desire station.
  3. Press SELECT to confirm your selection.

SETTING THE ALARM AND THE ALARM MODE

When the time has been set.

  1. In standby mode, press button once, then press SELECT button, Alarm 1 indicator ( , or 1 ) will blink, then use or to select "ON" mode, press SELECT to confirm.
  2. Press or to set the time of wake up, press SELECT to confirm.
    Noted: In 12 hour clock format, be sure to observe the AM/PM indicator to set correctly.
  3. Press or to select one of the duration of alarm: 15-30-45-60-90. Press SELECT to confirm. When the duration of alarm reach, the alarm will stop although you do not press any button.
  4. Press or to select the source of wake up by buzzer, DAB, FM or BT. Press SELECT button to confirm.
  5. Press or to select the alarm station by last or preset station. Press SELECT button to confirm.
    Noted: If you select the source of wake up by buzzer or Bluetooth, it will not appear this selection.
  6. Press or to specify one of the following alarm frequency options: "DAILY", "ONCE", "WEEKENDS" and "WEEKDAYS". Press SELECT button to confirm
    Note: If you select "ONCE", you will be prompted to set the date for your alarm.
  7. The alarm status will be showed. Press or to choose on/off the alarm, press SELECT to confirm. "SAVED" will be displayed. If you select the source of wake up by DAB or FM before, "" indicator will be displayed. If you select the source of wake up by buzzer, "" indicator will be displayed. If you select the source of wake up by Bluetooth, "1 " indicator will be displayed.

Note:

  • Same procedure applies for alarm 2 with button.
  • If you wake up with last radio, select your desire station, then press and hold button to turn off the radio before alarm time reaches. For the station selecting, please refer to "Listen to DAB/DAB+ radio" and "Listen to FM radio".
  • The corresponding alarm indicator blinks when the alarm function is activated- Alarm can only be set after the time has been set.
  • The previous level of listening is stored, the volume of the alarm will be identical. If you wake up with the radio OR Bluetooth, do not forget to check the volume level. Select your desired radio station before the unit is turned off.
  • When Bluetooth (BT) is the wake-up source, make sure your Bluetooth device (e.g. Smartphone) is the most recently paired Bluetooth device to M-196DBT, and the Bluetooth function is enabled on your Bluetooth device. When the alarm time is reached, the unit will automatically reconnect with your Bluetooth device and the songs in your Bluetooth device will start to play automatically.

Stopping the alarm

Alarm repetition

Press SNOOZE. The alarm stops and will sound again 9 minutes later.

Alarm stop

Press . The alarm 1 or alarm 2 will sound again the next day at the same time.

Note:

  • If you select the alarm frequency by "ONCE", the alarm will not sound again.
  • If you select the alarm frequency by "DAILY", the alarm will sound again.
  • If you select the alarm frequency by "WEEKEND", the alarm will sound again at each weekend.
  • If you select the alarm frequency by "WEEKDAYS", the alarm will sound again except weekend.

Alarm Cancellation

Press , "ALARM 1" will be displayed. press SELECT to confirm. Then press or to select "OFF" mode. Press SELECT button to confirm to cancel the alarm 1 permanently. The , or 1 indicator turn off Noted: Same procedure applies for Alarm 2 with button.

SLEEP FUNCTION

When the unit is on. press and hold SLEEP enter into sleep mode, repeatedly press SLEEP to select 120-90-60-30-15-5 minutes of listening. Press SELECT button to confirm. "SLEEP" indicator lights up. The unit will automatically turn off after the specified time. To cancel the sleep function, repeatedly press SLEEP button until "OFF" display, press SELECT to confirm. "SLEEP" indicator lights off.

DIMMER

Press DIMMER button repeatedly to select the brightness of the screen: high, low, off.

Pairing a Bluetooth Device

  1. When the unit is ON, Press SOURCE button repeatedly to select Bluetooth mode. The display will show "BT" for a few seconds and change to clock time. The Bluetooth indicator will start to blink indicating it is in pairing mode.
  2. On the Bluetooth device, enable Bluetooth and select "M-196DBT" from the Device List.(Refer to the user manual of the device to be connected for detailed operations.) If the Bluetooth device prompts for a pass code, use "0000". Some Bluetooth devices will ask you to accept the connection. You will hear an indication sound when pairing is successful. The Bluetooth indicator stops blinking and stays lit.

Tip: If you want to connect your Bluetooth speaker to another Bluetooth audio device, you need to disconnect current device first and follow the steps above to make a new connection.

  • On some devices such as computers, once paired you must select the unit from the Bluetooth menu and choose "Use as Audio Device (stereo)" or similar.
  • Pairing remains intact when the unit and/or your Bluetooth device is taken out of communication range. An active connection will be re-established when your Bluetooth device returns within range.
  • When the unit is turned on again, it will automatically try to reconnect with the most recently paired Bluetooth device.

Using a Bluetooth Device

  1. With a unit paired (see previous section), operate your Bluetooth device and its sound will be heard through the M-196 DBT's speakers.
  2. Press the button to pause playback. Press again to resume playback.
  3. Select desired track with / .
  4. Adjust the volume using the Volume buttons. You can also adjust the volume on the device to which you are paired.

Using a NFC Device

NFC (Near Field Communication) is a technology that enables short-range wireless communication between NFC-enabled devices, such as mobile phones.

  1. When the unit is ON, Press SOURCE button repeatedly to select Bluetooth mode. The display will show "BT "for a few seconds and change to clock time. The Bluetooth indicator will start to blink indicating it is in pairing mode.
  2. Enable NFC and Bluetooth on your Bluetooth device (see the user manual of your device for details), tap the NFC device on the NFC tag of this unit until you hear an indication sound from this unit. The NFC device is connected to this unit via Bluetooth.
  3. Select and play audio files or music on your NFC device.
  4. To break the connection, tap the NFC device with the NFC tag on this unit again.

Note: The operational range between the main unit and a NFC device is approximately 10 meters.

CONNECTING AUXILIARY SOURCE

  1. Connect your auxiliary source (e.g. mp3 player) to the AUX IN jack on the back of unit (cable not included).
  2. Press SOURCE button on unit repeatedly to select AUX mode. The display will show "AUX" for a few seconds and change to clock time.
  3. Start playback from your auxiliary source.
  4. Adjust the volume to desired level.
  5. To stop playback, disconnect your auxiliary source from the AUX IN jack.

USB CHARGING

This unit is equipped with a built-in USB charging port (Output: 5V 1A ) for recharging your mobile device (e.g. Smartphone, tablet, etc.)
Simply plug the USB charging cable (not included) into the USB charging port and connect it to your mobile device.

REVIEWING MORE INFORMATION (FM/ DAB MODE)

Repeatedly press MENU/INFO button to review some unit settings (e. g. time, date) or available information (e. g. radio text, name) for the station you are listening.

SETTING MENU

  1. In AUX, DAB, FM or Bluetooth mode, press and hold MENU/INFO button to enter into setting menu.
  2. Press or to select one of the available options and press SELECT to confirm.
    AUX IN mode: SYSTEM
    Bluetooth mode: SYSTEM
    DAB mode: FULL SCAN / MANUAL / DRC / PRUNE / SYSTEM
    FM mode: SCAN SET / AUDIO SET / SYSTEM

Note: When do the setting in the menu, press the MENU/INFO button to return back to previous step.

FM setting menu

SCAN SET:
ALL: The automatic search locates at any available station.
STRONG: The automatic search only locates at strong stations.

AUDIO SET
To select between "Stereo" and "Mono" for the FM radio.

SYSTEM
To select the system setting options: TIME, RESET, SW VER (software version).

  • TIME
    You can adjust the time and date setting.
  • RESET
    To clear all users defined settings.
    When you enter into reset mode, press or to select "YES", press SELECT button to confirm to restore to factory default settings. press or to select "NO", press SELECT to cancel this selection.
  • SW VER (software version)
    To display the current software version

DAB/DAB+ Setting Menu

FULL SCAN
This function allows you to automatically scan and create a list of receivable DAB/DAB+ broadcasts.

PRUNE (remove stations that are listed but unavailable)
Press or to select "No" or "Yes", then press SELECT button to confirmor cancel removing all invalid stations.

DRC (Dynamic range compression)
DRC can make quieter sounds easier to hear when the unit is used in a noisy environment. Press or to select your desire DRC level: off, low, high

  • DRC Off - no compression. This is the default setting.
  • DRC Low - medium compression.
  • DRC High - maximum compression.

Note:

  • DRC is effective only in dynamic range compression broadcast
  • When you adjusted the DRC level, volume can be heard more loudly.

MANUAL (Manual Tune)

This function can be used to assist the positioning of the antenna or the unit to obtain the optimum reception for a specific channel or frequency.
