Situation-dependent brake force boosting
Situation-dependent brake force boosting may intervene at speeds starting from approximately 4 mph
(7 km/h) in the following situations:
Vehicles traveling
Stationary vehi-

Canceling a brake application of Active Brake
Assist
You can cancel a brake application of Active Brake
Assist at any time by:
Fully depressing the accelerator pedal or with
R
kickdown.
Fully releasing the brake pedal (only during sit-
R
uation-dependent brake force boosting).
Active Brake Assist may cancel the brake applica-
tion when one of the following conditions is fulfil-
led:
You maneuver to avoid the obstacle.
R
There is no longer a risk of collision.
R
An obstacle is no longer detected in front of
R
your vehicle.
System limits
The system may be impaired or may not function in
the following situations:
The sensors are affected by snow, rain, fog or
R
heavy spray.
The sensors are dirty, fogged up, damaged or
R
covered.
The sensors are affected by interference from
R
other radar sources, e.g. strong radar reflec-
tions in parking garages.
If a loss of tire pressure or a defective tire has
R
been detected and displayed.
Full system performance is not yet available for
R
a few seconds after starting the vehicle or after
driving off.
The system may not react correctly in the following
situations:
In complex traffic situations, objects may not
R
always be clearly detected.
Pedestrians or vehicles move quickly into the
R
detection range of the sensors.
Crossing vehicles
Crossing pedes-
trians/cyclists
No reaction
Up to approx.
37 mph
(60 km/h)
Pedestrians are obscured by other objects.

Bends with a narrow radius can hamper the
R
system's ability to react correctly.
Setting Active Brake Assist
Requirements:
The vehicle is switched on.

The following settings are available:
Early
R
Medium
R
Late
R
Off
R

It is recommended that Active Brake Assist is
always left activated.
Select a setting.

The last active setting is selected automatically
every time the vehicle is started.
Exception: if the last setting was Off, the
setting will be automatically activated the next
time the vehicle is started.
Deactivating Active Brake Assist

It is recommended that Active Brake Assist is
always left activated.
Select Off.

The distance warning function and autono-
mous braking function are deactivated.
When the vehicle is next started, the
ting is automatically activated.

If Active Brake Assist is deactivated, the æ
symbol appears in the status bar of the instru-
ment cluster.
