and connecting to the required port, which should be configured as
RS232). A second converter is supplied for conversion back to an
electrical signal at the other end of the link (25-pin D-type socket,
DCE connection). If connecting to a PC (typically for the host PC
connection), a 25 – 9 pin reducer and serial-to-USB converter are
supplied. For other connections (e.g. DCS connection), a DIN rail
terminal block connection can be more convenient and an adaptor is
supplied for this purpose. The terminal block pin numbering is
identical to that of the 25-pin connector.
The converter requires a 12VDC power supply. The item supplied
includes internationally compatible mains connections, and the DC
supply plugs in to the connector on the device. If preferred, an
alternative 12VDC supply can be delivered via the 25-way terminal
block (where used) – refer to the manufacturer's data sheet for
connection details.
The external fibre optic converter will be supplied configured for
RS232 operation. However, it can also provide RS422 and RS485
connections if required/applicable (see Table D-1). Refer to the
manufacturer's data sheet for details of how to change the settings.
Note that there is no need to change the configuration of the
converter in the instrument – this can remain as RS232.
