14. RECTIFYING PROBLEMS
Problem
Insufficient heat
Too hot and/or flare-ups
Heat not evenly distributed
over grill surface
Yellow flames
Incomplete flame

Potential causes
• Gas supply not open
• Venturi tubes not situated above the
openings of the gas valves
• Burner openings blocked
• Gas bottle (almost) empty
• Pressure regulator not correctly connected
to bottle and/or hose
• Food too fatty
• Fat drain openings blocked,
fat in bowl, and/or on burners
• Temperature too high
• Some difference in heat is normal, see
"1.7 Using the heat efficiently" and "10.6
Using the heat zones". Potential causes of
considerable differences in heat:
• Appliance not pre-heated
• Burners or venturi tubes blocked
• Salt on burners
• Appliance connected to butane
• Burner blocked, pierced, or corroded
• Burners or venturi tubes blocked
• Wind
• Gas bottle (almost) empty
• Fat in bowl and/or on burners
• Warm weather
• New (full) gas bottle
• Gas injector, venturi tube, and/or burner
soiled
• Burner or venturi tube blocked
• No gas supply
• No battery inserted or battery inserted
incorrectly
• Middle burner not ignited first
• Igniter wiring not correctly connected
• Electrode damaged
• Incorrect grounding
• Defective igniter
• No battery inserted or battery inserted
incorrectly
• Battery depleted
• Igniter button not correctly fitted
• Defective spark generator
• Incorrect grounding
• Burner and electrode too far apart
• Defective wiring
• Incorrect grounding
• Battery (almost) depleted
• Wet or defective electrodes

Solutions
• Open gas supply
• Place venturi tubes above the openings of
the gas valves
• Clean burner openings or replace burners
• Replace gas bottle
• Reconnect pressure regulator to bottle and/
or hose
• Cut off excess fat or select a lower heat for
the burners
• Clean fat drain opening, bowl, and burners
• Select a lower heat for the burners and/or
grill food indirectly
• Pre-heat appliance
• Clean burners and venturi tubes
• Clean burners
• Connect appliance to propane and use a
suitable pressure regulator
• Clean or replace burner
• Close the gas supply and set the burners to
OFF.
• Allow the appliance to cool.
• Clean burners and venturi tubes.
• Turn rear of appliance to wind
• Replace gas bottle
• Clean bowl and burners
• No hazard or fault; stops automatically
after a short period of time.
• Clean gas injector, venturi tube, and burner
• Clean burner and venturi tube
• Open gas supply and press safety button
on pressure regulator (not present on all
regulators)
• Re-insert/insert battery with correct polarity
• Ignite middle burner first
• Check all igniter connections and
re-connect
• Replace electrode
• Check electrodes, burners, and igniter and
re-assemble
• Replace igniter
• Re-insert/insert battery with correct polarity
• Replace battery
• Re-fit igniter button
• Replace spark generator
• Re-connect spark generator and
• electrodes
• Bend electrode slightly to move it closer to
burner
• Replace wiring
• Re-connect spark generator and electrodes
• Replace battery
• Dry electrodes with kitchen paper or replace
electrodes
