About this appendix

This appendix defines soft points and describes the procedure for configuring them.
D.2

Soft point overview

Soft points are global storage areas for data that can be used by any user application running in the
Model 3711. For example:
An FST may use a soft point during processing to store an intermediate result.
An FST may store the results of a calculation in a soft point. This value is now available to
other FSTs, and can be configured as a history point.
A Modbus communications program can address soft points.
For the Model 3711, sixteen soft points can be defined. Each soft point includes:
One tag (10-character string)
Twenty floating-point values
One unassigned integer flag (16-bit)
Soft points are predefined in the Model 3711. You do not need to configure them unless you want to
change the tag or you want to provide startup values.
