The start input is activated on the rising edge; hence a transition from 0 V to 24 Vdc will command the HiPer-
Guard MV UPS to start. Please note that the HiPerGuard MV UPS will not start if either the EPO or stop command
is active (open circuit between terminals X11:1 and X11:2 for EPO and X11:5 and X11:6 for stop). If the start control
via DI is not required, the terminal X11:3 and X11:4 must be kept open.
The reset input is activated on the falling edge, which means that a transition from 24 Vdc to 0 V will reset all ac-
tive warnings and faults. A reset command can be applied at any time. If unused, the terminals X11:7 and X11:8
must be kept open.
The start, stop, and reset commands coming from the digital inputs are tracked independently, and will be differ-
entiated from those coming from the GDM on the event log.

6.4.4 Energy Storage Interface
The HiPerGuard MV UPS communicates to the energy storage through Modbus TCP and hard-wired interfaces. The
next sections will describe both communication methods.
6.4.4.1 Modbus TCP interface
The communication between the MV UPS and the (Battery Management System (BMS) is established via Modbus
TCP protocol, read-only from the UPS end. Please refer to the battery supplier BMS Modbus registers list for de-
tailed information. Usually, the BMS provides the following information:
- String connection and power switch status;
- Average state of charge;
- Maximum and minimum cell voltages;
- Maximum and minimum cell temperatures.
6.4.4.2 Hard-wired interface
The HiPerGuard MV UPS operation requires the Energy Storage (ES) strings' feedback signals to be connected to
the APS enclosure through an interface I/O module. The module has several digital inputs that collects from each
battery string the open/close feedback signal of the MCCB. Also, the module is connected to the under-voltage re-
lease coil of the strings' MCCBs through 24 Vdc pilot relays to issue global trip command to the strings when MV
UPS isolation is required.
The module is located in the energy storage room and it and it is pre-programmed to encode and decode the sig-
nals on the Ethernet cable between the HiPerGuard MV UPS APS enclosure and the Energy Storage enclosure. The
number of inputs/outputs varies depending on the number of series strings of batteries, which in turn is a func-
tion of the required energy storage autonomy, and type of battery chosen.
