Connecting

Proper use
Only use the device for its intended purpose. When connecting non-specified devices to the
RF166C, it is possible that the connected device may be destroyed.
PROFIBUS connection system
You can find detailed information on PROFIBUS DP in the "PROFIBUS Network Manual
(https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/ww/en/view/35222591)" system manual.
Power supply
All supply and signal voltages must be safety extra low voltage (SELV/PELV according to
IEC 61140).
Damage to the device due to overvoltage
The connection of the external power supply is not protected against strong
electromagnetic pulses, which can occur, for example, due to lightning or the switching of
large loads.
One of the tests used to attest the immunity of the communications module to
electromagnetic interference was the "surge immunity test" according to EN 61000-4-5.
These tests require overvoltage protection for the power supply cables. A suitable device
would be, for example, the Dehn Blitzductor BVT AVD 23 (article number 918 422) or a
comparable protective element.
Manufacturer: DEHN+SOEHNE GmbH+Co.KG, Hans-Dehn-Str. 1, P.O Box 1640, D-92306
Neumarkt, Germany
Operate the communication module with appropriate overvoltage protection.
