Initial Start-Up

Initial System Check
1. Check the VRI Control Panel wiring to the Main panel has been properly terminated per the installation instruc-
tions herein.
CAUTION: Only a Certified Lindsay Dealer should perform any electrical maintenance or adjustments
to the electrical components.
Power-Up the System
Upon inspection of the power connections, power-up the system by:
1. Set the VRI main control power switch (on front of the VRI control panel) to the "OFF" position.
2. Set the VRI mode switch on the front of the VRI Control Panel to "Full VRI".
3. Power up only the main control panel. Make sure the power to the pivot drive system is still turned off.
4. Turn the VRI main controller "ON". The PC will begin to boot up and after a few minutes, the VRI program will
start.
Power-Up from a BOSS Panel
1. Apply power to the system by turning the main disconnect switch at the BOSS panel to ON.
2. Turn the BOSS panel power switch to ON. This only activates the BOSS panel, not the system.
3. At the panel, adjust the Rate to 100%.
4. Turn the VRI switch to ON.
5. At the VRI panel, turn the power switch to ON.
Power-Up and Test the Nodes
Upon powering up the VRI main controller, power-up the nodes by:
1. Load a plan into the VRI controller or upload a new plan if none have been uploaded. Make sure the plan being
used is for this specific machine and not another pivot.
2. At the system main panel, set the machine to a slow speed (5% is sufficient) and operate the machine, this will
power-up the safety circuit and will send power to the nodes. At the VRI control screen, the "Nodes Connected"
display on the "Overview" tab will start to count up. If this does not happen, stop the machine and troubleshoot
the problem by checking the node power supply connection first. (Refer to the Troubleshooting Section for addi-
tional help.)
3. The machine will need to initialize for 10 to 15 minutes after the node count-up has stopped.
4. After this initialization, compare the number of connected nodes to the total number of nodes on the machine,
found on the "Overview" tab.
5. If there are missing nodes, go to the "Status" tab and select the "Good Acks %" tab. All nodes that are not
connected will display here. Nodes with a problem will be highlighted in red, have a low percentage of good
acknowledgements and display the letter "N" for "Not connected". Nodes are constantly falling in and out of the
network, however, those that are permanently red need attention. (Refer to the Troubleshooting Section for
common connection issues.)
• If there is a problem with the node, turn off the VRI main controller panel and the irrigation system main
panel before performing any maintenance operations.
6. If all nodes are connected, check to see if the GPS data is being received. If the GPS data is received, the GPS
position will display in the "B position data" display on the "Overview" tab. If no data is shown, there is an issue
with the GPS or the GPS node. (Refer to the Troubleshooting Section in this manual.)
