The

the

sulotion
in
the ormoture ond

coils.
It
is
suggested
thot

ll
ports
except
the
clutch be cleoned
with
oleum
spir-
its ond
o
brush.
The clutch
con
be
wiped
with
o
cleon
cloth.
lf the
commutotor
is
dirty,
it
moy
be
cleoned with No. 00 sondpoper.
Never
use
emery
cloth
to
cleon
commutotor.
Armoture
Service
lf
the
ormoture commutotor
is worn,
dirty, out-of round,
or
hos
high
in-
sulotion,
the
ormoture should
be
put
in
o
lothe so
the
comm
utotor
co
n
be
turned
down. The
insulotion
should
then
be
undercut
'ly
of on
inch
wide
ond
'lu, of on
inch deep, ond the
slots
cleo
ned
out
to
remove
o
ny troce
of
dirt or copper
dust. As

in
this
procedure,
the
commutotor
should
be
sonded
lightly
with
No.00

the undercutting
procedure.
The ormoture should
be
checked
for
opens, short
circu
its,
ond
grounds

Opens
The most
likely ploce
for
on
open
to
occur
is
of
the
commutotor
riser
bo
rs os

resu
lt of
excessively
long
cro
n
king
periods. lnspect
the
points
where the
conductors
ore
ioined
to the
commutotor bors
for
loose
con-
nections.
The poor
connections
couse
orcing
ond
burning
of
the
commutotor
bors
os
the
storter motor
is
used.
lf
the
bors
ore
not
too bodly
burned
,
ra-
poir
co
n
often
be
effected
by
resol-
dering the
leods in
the
riser
bo
rs
(using
rosin
flux) ond
turning down
the
com-
mutotor
in o
lothe
to
remove
the
burned moteriol.
The
insulotion
should
then
be

ndercut.
Short
Circuits
Short
circu
its
in
the
ormoture
ore
locoted
by
use
of
o
growler.
When the ormoture
is
re-
volved
in the
growler
with
o
steel
strip such
os
o
hocksow
blode
held
obove
it, the blode will vibrote
obove
the qreo
of
the ormoture core in
which
the
short
circu
it
is
locoted.
S
horts
be-
tween bors
qre
sometimes
produced
by
brush dust
or
copper
between
the
bors.
These
shorts
con
be
eliminoted
by
cleoning
out the
slots.
