Steering
Geor Alignment
To
obtoin correct
steering
geor
olignment,
loosen
the
housing
mount-
ing bolts
iust enough
to
ollow the
geor
to
shi{t
ot
the
side
sill ond line up
ot
the
ongle determined
by the
height
setting
o{ the
iocket
tube
brocket.
Shims
moy
be
ploced between
the
steering
geor
housing
ond
mounting
surfoce,
if
necessory,
to
secure
sotis-
foctory
olignment.
Tighten
the
mounting
bolts.
Loosen
the
iocket
tube
brocket,
ollow
it
to
motch
the geor
column
position,
ond
tig hten.
The steering
geor
olignment
should
be
inspected
ond
corrected,
if
neces-
sory,
prior
to
performing steering
geor'
od
justment operotions.
Worm Beoring Adiustment
Turn
the
steering
wheel obout
one
turn from the stroight oheod
position
ond
secure
the wheel
to
prevent
ony
movement.
Worm beoring
end ploy
is
deter-
mined
by
shoking the front
wheel
side-
woys noting
ony end
movement
thot
moy
be felt
between
the
steering
wheel hub ond
the
steering
iocket
tube.

Be sure
lhe
movemenl
noled

looseness
in
the
sleering
iockel
tube
bearing.

loosening
the
four
cover
cop
screws

one-eighth
inch.

Assemble

cover
ond
inspect for

shim

prevent odiusting
the worm
beorings
too tight

will
couse
the
steering
geor
to
become
too
hord
to
turn.

determine
the
omount
of
cleoronce
between
the
worm cross
shoft
roll-
er.
A
movement
in
excess

the pitmon orm
indicotes
the
roller
ond
worm
mesh must
be
odjusted.
Adlustment
of
the
cross
shoft
roller
ond worm
mesh
is
occomplished
by
loosening
the lock nut ond
tightening
the
externol odiusting screw.
DO
NOT
OVERTIGHTEN.
After
eoch odjustment,
inspect
for
proper
mesh
by
shoking
the
pitmon
orm.
