    To avoid a fire hazard, occasionally disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power supply and use a soft dry cloth to clean the cord connectors and the connection points. Leaving the cord plugged in and not cleaned for a long period, especially in an area subject to dust, oil, and high humidity, could cause the insulation material to deteriorate.

To avoid back strain or other personal injuries, at least two people, lifting together at the front and back of the printer, are required to move the printer. From the operation panel overlays, select the one for your language, strip off the backing, and place over the operation panel.

    USB port. Important If you connect the printer via the parallel or USB port, you must select the port with the printer operation panel. The printer will not be able to print if the correct connection method is not selected with the operation panel.

    Connect the other end of the printer cable to the parallel port of the computer. Secure the connection with the screws attached to the head of the printer cable. USB Connection Plug the B connector (angular) of the USB cable into the USB port on the back of the printer.

    10BASE-T/100BASE-TX protocols. For a network connect, the printer LAN port is connected to the network HUB. The optional Network Interface Board NB-11FB must be installed in the standard model of this printer before the printer can be connected to a network. ( Press on the lever to remove the connector cover on the back of the printer.

    4 Connect the Power Cord After positioning the printer and connecting the printer and computer, follow this procedure to connect the power cord. Connect the power cord provided with the printer to the power connector on the left side of the printer.

    5 Install the Printhead The printhead is installed with the printer switched on. Read the messages in the printer display as you follow the procedure below. Press the Power button to switch the printer on. After a few seconds “Install P.head Press Online Key” is displayed.

  • Page 29 Hold the new printhead by the grips (a) on both sides, remove it from its package, and remove the protective cap and packing material. Important When handling the printhead, always hold it by the grips (a) on the left and right sides of the printhead.
  • Page 30 Pull the printhead lock cover toward you and lower it completely until it locks. Raise the printhead lock lever and push in toward the printer until it locks. Re-attach the back upper cover. On the operation panel “Ins. Ink Tank OK” is displayed and the right cover lock is released.

    Bk (Black) Important Before you use the printer the first time, you must install the ink tanks immediately after installing the printhead. If the printer is switched off after installation of the printhead without the ink tanks installed, the printer may not operate correctly even if the ink tanks are installed after the printer is switched on again.
  • Page 32 Important Always unlock the right cover before you try to open it. To prevent damaging the printer, never force the right cover open. Push up the ink tank lever for the color to set, then open the ink tank cover.
  • Page 33 With the ink ports pointing down and the label facing in the direction shown in the illustration below, insert the ink tank into the holder. Important Always match the color of the ink with the correct holder before inserting it. The ink tank cannot be installed if you try to install it in the wrong holder or position it incorrectly.

    Loading the Media Follow the procedure below to load the paper cassette provided with the printer. This procedure also applies to the optional paper cassettes. Note The paper cassette holds approximately 250 sheets of standard weight (64 to 105 g/ ) plain paper.

    This software operates with Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows NT4.0, Windows Me, and Windows 98. NetSpot Console can be downloaded for no charge from the Canon Home Page (http://www.canon.com/) and installed on any server computer.

    Installation For a Windows Parallel Port Connection On the Setup Menu of the provided software CD-ROM, execute Install Printer Driver to install the printer driver and NetSpot Suite Service. If you have just connected the printer for Windows, the Install New Hardware window opens.
  • Page 53 If the AutoPlay function is switched off, double-click the My Computer icon on the desktop, click the CD-ROM drive icon, and then from the File menu select AutoPlay.     Printhead Correction Settings After the software has been installed, use the printer driver to perform the original correction settings for the installed printhead. Perform this procedure for all computers where the printer driver has been installed. The printhead correction settings are performed in the Printer Properties window with the printer icon selected.
