How the Solution Kit (Type H) Works
Some narcotics pose an analysis challenge for the TruNarc analyzer: They
may emit high levels of fluorescent light when stimulated by the TruNarc
laser. Fluorescent light obscures the raman spectral data, in the same way that
glaring light can obscure a photographic image. In this situation, although
the analyzer collects enough data to identify the narcotic, it cannot process
the data. To overcome this problem, the TruNarc analyzer comes with a test
kit that uses a technology that dramatically reduces fluorescence.
The test kit consists of a small vial of ethanol and a plastic test stick with a
scoop on one end. In the base of the scoop is a specially treated metal wafer.
Using the procedures in this chapter, you apply a small amount of narcotic
that has been dissolved in the ethanol solution to this wafer and scan it.
Chemical events on the wafer surface reduce the amount of fluorescent light
that the narcotic emits, so that the analyzer can identify the narcotic.
