Scrape the powder or paste into a

small pile high enough to hide the
underlying surface.
Hold the nose cone just above the

pile.
Hold the tablet or the pill on the
nose cone during the scan.
If the tablet or pill is coated, first try
to scan through the coating. If you
get an Inconclusive result, scrape off
the coating and scan the underlying
surface, or break the tablet or pill in
half and scan the interior surface.
Hold the clear end of the capsule on
the nose cone.
If the capsule is completely
opaque, empty it into a plastic
bag for the scan.
NOTE
Hold the nose cone directly over a
piece of material in the pipe.
The pipe must contain large
chunks of residue. You cannot
scan trace residues.
NOTE
Remove any opaque wrappings,

such as aluminum foil. You do not
need to remove clear plastic wrap.
Hold the nose cone on the surface.

If possible, place a sample in a
plastic bag for the scan.
