Precautions for automatic transmission
equipped vehicle
For the automatic transmission-equipped
vehicle, special care should be exercised to
.
the following points.
Apply the parking brake and shift the
transmission lever to the® range before
.
starting the engine.
The engine can also be started in the®
range, but it is advisable to start the
.
engine in the® range.
For safety reasons, the shifting mecha
nism is so constructed that the engine
can not be started with the transmission
lever shifted to the®,@,® or@range.
If the engine is stalled while the vehicle is
moving, restart it with the transmission in
.
the@ range.
The engine can not be started by push
ing or towing the vehicle.
Shift the transmission only when the en
gine is idling. The vehicle may move
suddenly if the transmission is shifted to
the ®,@, ® or @ range during high
engine speed.
Shift the transmission from the ® or ®
range to other ranges with the brake
pedal firmly depressed; otherwise the
vehicle may move suddenly.
Manual transmission
shifting instructions
The shift pattern is shown above.
Depress the clutch pedal fully when shifting.
If the gear will not be shifted easily, release
and depress the clutch pedal and try again.
The transmission is so designed that the shift
lever can not be shifted from the 5th gear to
the reverse gear directly. To shift from the 5th
gear to the reverse gear, first return the shift
lever to neutral, and then to the reverse gear
after the vehicle has completely stopped.
CAUTION
Shift into the reverse gear after the vehicle
has been stopped completely; otherwise,
the transmission may be damaged.
When you drive on steep hills, downshift for
engine braking depending on road condi
tions or vehicle speed.
