PLUMBING SYNCFURNACE OD:
syncFURNACE OD is approved for combination water (Potable) heating and space heating applications. It
incorporates an internal pump that circulates fluid through the internal water heating coil (to provide
furnace heating), and (for re-circ models) through an external hot water pre-heat re-circulation line, the
switching between these 2 functions is internally managed through controlled of a 3-way diverver valve.
This product is intended for use in open loop applications only. DO NOT install in closed loop only heating
applications. DO NOT reverse the HOT and COLD water connections. DO NOT connect to water lines
previously used for space heating. All water piping and components shall be suitable for potable water.
This product is equipped with an internal 150 psi (10 bar) pressure relief valve (PRV) that is installed in
factory. There is a ¾" fitting on the bottom panel that is the drain line for the internal PRV. This PRV is
included to protect the open loop heating system from over pressure scenarios.
DO NOT use syncFURNACE OD piping connections to support the piping weight. Hangers / supports must
be used.
For products setup with DHW re-circ, we highly recommend installation of a check-valve on the incoming
cold water supply (check-valve is included with product) and an expansion tank (field supplied – approved
for use in potable water application) installed on the syncFURNACE OD side of the check-valve. These two
components are required to prevent back-flow thru the cold water piping networkIt is the installers
responsibility to properly size and install an expansion tank that is acceptable for use with potable water
systems and local code requirements.
syncFURNACE OD is designed to operate with a static pressure of 30 psi (2 bar) – 85 psi (6 bar) when
in stanby mode. In areas with higher water inlet pressure a pressure reducing valve must be installed
before the water heater. All piping MUST be pressure tested.
All plumbing must meet or exceed all local and national plumbing code requirements.
It is highly recommended to use a tankless water heater service valve kit as first connection point to the
product.
Design piping layout so that piping DOES NOT interfere with serviceable components.
ONLY use plumbing materials approved for use in potable water heating applications.
A thermostatic mixing valve may be required to regulate the temperature of the out-going flow of hot
water to prevent scalding. Consult and follow the requirements of local codes and authorities.
syncFURNACE OD Instruction & Installation Manual – Rev 09
During operation of the product, the relief valve may discharge large amounts of steam
and/or hot water. Therefore, to reduce the potential for bodily injury and property
damage, a discharge line MUST be installed so that it: 1) Is connected from the ¾"
fitting on the bottom panel identified as the PRV to Drain connection with no intervening
valve and directed downward to a safe point of discharge. 2) Allows complete drainage
of both the valve and the discharge line. 3) Is as short and straight as possible. 4)
Terminates freely to atmosphere where any discharge will be clearly visible and is at no
risk of freezing. 5) Terminates with a plain end which is not threaded. 6) Is
constructed of a material suitable for exposure to temperatures of 375°F or greater. 7)
Is, over its entire length, of a pipe size equal to or greater than that of the valve outlet.
