CONDENSATION TRAP:
To achieve maximum operating efficiency, flue gases inside the heat exchanger and chimney will condense
during burner operation. It is critical that the venting system be installed in accordance with the
requirements of this manual so that condensate properly drains back into the heat exchanger and out the
side discharge.
syncFURNACE OD is provided with an internal, pre-installed, condensation trap. The addition of an
external trap is not required during installation of discharge piping.
Internal condensation trap must be primed by pouring tap water into the Flue Gas Outlet connection.
Install ¾" or 1" diameter discharge tubing (field supplied), to floor drain (if allowed by local code) or
neutralization unit (if required by local code) and/or condensation pump.
For installations in Canada use CSA or ULC listed schedule 40 PVC or CPVC drain pipe, fittings and cement.
For installations in the USA, the drain pipe, fittings and cement must conform to ANSI standards and
ASTM D2564 or F493.
If syncFURNACE OD is installed so that the condensation line is below the drain, install a properly sized
condensation pump. Use a pump that is approved for condensing water heater applications and
incorporates an overflow switch. Pipe the pump so that it terminates to a drain using open/vented piping
and is located as close to the drain as possible to prevent siphoning.
Pipe ventilation must take place between syncFURNACE OD and drain – see below diagram.

WARNING
syncFURNACE OD Instruction & Installation Manual – Rev 09
DO NOT connect the drain pipe from any other appliance, such as a water softener,
humidifier, air conditioning coil to the condensation drain line of syncFURNACE OD.
At initial start-up, flue gases may be emitted from the condensation drain. Fill the
siphon with water prior to start-up.
Incorrect installation of the condensation drain line will null and void syncFURNACE
OD product warranty.
