Setting up the folding wheel chock
Preparing the vehicle for a wheel change
Requirements
The required tire-change tool kit is available.

If your vehicle is not equipped with the tire-
change tool kit, consult a qualified specialist
workshop to find out about suitable tools.
The vehicle is not on a slope.
R
The vehicle is on solid, non-slippery and level
R
ground.
Apply the electric parking brake manually.

Bring the front wheels into the straight-ahead
#
position.
Vehicles with automatic transmission:
#
Shift into position j.
Vehicles with AIR BODY CONTROL: Set the
#
normal vehicle level (
page 174).

Switch off the engine.

Make sure that the engine cannot be started.
#
Place chocks or other suitable items under
#
the front and rear of the wheel that is diago‐
nally opposite the wheel you wish to change.
Remove the hub caps if necessary

Raise the vehicle (

Removing and mounting hub caps
Requirements
The vehicle is prepared for a wheel change

Plastic hub cap
To remove: turn the center cover of the hub
#
cap counter-clockwise and remove the hub
cap.
To mount: make sure that the center cover
#
of the hub cap is turned counter-clockwise.
Position the hub cap and turn the center
#
cover clockwise until the hub cap engages
physically and audibly.
