Crosswind Assist
ESP
®
Crosswind Assist detects sudden gusts of
side wind and helps the driver to keep the vehi‐
cle in the lane:

ESP
Crosswind Assist is active at vehicle
R
speeds between 50 mph (80 km/h) and
125 mph (200 km/h) when driving straight
ahead or cornering slightly.
The vehicle is stabilized by means of individ‐

tribution)
EBD is characterized by the following:

OFF å warn‐
Monitoring and regulating the brake pressure
R
on the rear wheels.
Improved driving stability when braking,

especially on bends.
Function of Active Brake Assist
Active Brake Assist consists of:
Distance warning function
R
Autonomous braking function
R
Situation-dependent braking assistance

Vehicles with the Driving Assistance
R
package: Evasive Steering Assist
Active Brake Assist can help you to minimize the
risk of a collision with vehicles or pedestrians or
to reduce the effects of such a collision.
Driving and parking 155
If Active Brake Assist has detected a risk of colli‐
sion, you will be warned visually and acousti‐
cally.
If you do not react to the visual or acoustic warn‐
ing, autonomous braking can be initiated in criti‐
cal situations.
In especially critical situations, Active Brake
Assist can initiate autonomous braking directly.
In this case, the visual and acoustic warning
occurs simultaneously with the braking applica‐
tion.
If you apply the brake yourself in a critical situa‐
tion or apply the brake during autonomous brak‐
ing, situation-dependent braking assistance
occurs. This increases the brake pressure up to
maximum full-stop braking if necessary.
If the autonomous braking function or the situa‐
tion-dependent braking assistance is triggered,
additional preventive measures for occupant
®
protection (PRE-SAFE
) may also be initiated, if
the vehicle is equipped with these.
