Parking Pilot is only an aid. It is not a substitute
for your attention to the surroundings. The
responsibility for safe maneuvering and parking
remains with you. Make sure that no persons,
animals or objects etc. are in the maneuvering
range.
Parking Pilot is canceled if, among other things,
one of the following actions is carried out:
You switch off Parking Assist PARKTRONIC.
R
You switch off Parking Pilot.
R
You begin steering.

Parking Pilot system limitations
Objects located above or below the detection
range of Parking Pilot are not detected when the
parking space is being measured. These are also
not taken into account when the parking maneu‐
ver is calculated, e.g. overhanging loads, over‐
hangs or loading ramps of trucks or the bounda‐
ries of the parking space. In some circumstan‐
ces, Parking Pilot may therefore guide you into
the parking space prematurely.
& WARNING Risk of accident due to
objects located above or below the
detection range of Parking Pilot
If there are objects above or below the
detection range, the following situations may
arise:
Parking Pilot may steer too early.
R
Vehicles with automatic transmis‐
R
sion: The vehicle may not stop in front of
these objects.
This could cause a collision.
In these situations, do not use Parking
#
Pilot.
Snowfall or heavy rain may lead to a parking
space being measured inaccurately. Parking
spaces that are partially occupied by trailer
drawbars might not be identified as such or be
measured incorrectly. Only use Parking Pilot on
level, high-grip ground.
Driving and parking 185
Do not use Parking Pilot, for example, in the fol‐
lowing situations:
In extreme weather conditions such as ice or
R
packed snow or in heavy rain.
If you are transporting a load that protrudes
R
beyond the vehicle.
If the parking space is on a steep downhill or
R
uphill gradient.
If you have installed snow chains.
R
Parking Pilot may also display parking spaces
that are not suitable for parking, e.g.:
Parking spaces where parking is prohibited.
R
Parking spaces on unsuitable surfaces.
R
Parking Pilot will not assist you with parking
spaces at right angles to the direction of travel
in the following situations:
If two parking spaces are located immedi‐
R
ately next to each other.
If the parking space is directly next to a low
R
obstacle such as a low curb.
