Check the effective and correct water circula-
tion of the heat exchanger by a visual verifica-
tion at the outlet of the drain pipe.
The diesel pump control panel has to be de-
tached from the motor frame and fixed to the
ground, this in order to avoid propagation of
vibrations to the electrical components.
A robust electrical earth connection between
the engine frame and the control panel stand
must be carried out with a cable of generous
section or metal braid.
The fuel tank can, if necessary, be removed
from the motor frame. In this case make sure
that the tank is positioned on the same founda-
tion of the engine, or at least the same height,
to ensure that the fuel feeds the injection pump
by gravity.
A robust electrical earth connection between
the engine frame and the control panel stand
must be carried out with a cable of generous
section or metal braid.
Check all connections and electrical connec-
tions are correct and realized by applying all
the rules and provisions in force in the terms of
security and within the respect of the fire norm.
Check the tightness and the seal of all hydrau-
lic connections; check the correct positioning
and tightening of the exhaust gas duct in the
case of diesel pumps.
Make sure there is a sufficient exchange of air in
the room to ensure proper cooling of machines
in order to not exceed the operating conditions.

14.1 Alignment of the pumps with spacer coupling

The pumps alignment operation is of funda-
mental importance to the proper functioning
of the pumping unit and must be performed by
trained personnel who assumes responsibility.
Be sure to do the alignment in security and en-
suring that there is an accidental starting of the
pump at work.
Disconnect the batteries for the diesel pumps
or detaching from network the electric pumps.
After the alignment operations, be sure to reas-
semble the coupling guard.
Although the motor and pump are aligned with precision in the
factory, after having installed and connect the pumping set to
the pipes, a further alignment must be made.
This is necessary due movement and tensions occurred
• during transport,
• during pipe connection.
It is also important to check the alignment also after the first
starting, after the machine has reached working temperature
conditions.
Follow the detailed procedure in the relevant instruction and use
manual of the pump supplied as integral part of this documenta-
tion.

14.2 Priming of the pumps

In the case of suction lift installations, the rule
indicates that it is provided and installed an au-
tomatic priming device for each duty pump.
During the commissioning and when is necessary (eg in case of
service), provide a correct priming of the pump referring also to
the documentation for the pumps supplied with the pumping set.
The following procedure is to be repeated for each of the
pumps installed on the set, making sure you leave all the others
switched off:
• close all shut-off valves on the discharge side of the pump
and test circuit (if present),
• open the suction gate valve of the pump to prime,
• remove the priming cap and slowly pour the liquid into the
pump until it is completely filled,
• put the cap back on and carefully close it,
• set the operation mode selector switch of the pump to prime
in MAN position and start it,
• vent the pump.
In some cases, it may be necessary to repeat the procedure
described above several times in order to completely evacuate
the air from the pumps.

Verifications and checks

The periodic verification of the pumping set performance must
be regularly carried out by the installer or by a qualified com-
pany, as required by the EN 12845 standard.
The activities performed are to be documented in a special
register kept in the building.

15.1 Check pumping set performance

The flow measurement required while carrying out the inspec-
tion and periodic verifications is done using a flow meter with
direct reading.
The Grundfos dedicated kit (optional), includes shut-off valve,
flow meter and control valve. Its configuration and measure-
ment accuracy correspond to the EN 12845 requirements.
Ensure that there are no air bubbles in the
flow meter and that there are no impurities in
the measurement circuit; if necessary, use the
bleeder screw placed on the top of the instru-
ment. Remember that the presence of air bub-
bles inside the instrument considerably chang-
es its reading precision.
The tests are to be executed with the following sequence of
operations:
• set the main switch of the jockey pump in 0 position,
• close the gate valves on the discharge connection to the fire
network,
• set the operation mode selector of the main pumps on
"TEST"
• open the gate valve of the flow rate test loop,
• partially open the gate valve located downstream of the flow-
meter on the test circuit in order to allow the measurement of
the flow rate.
• check the discharge pressure on the manometer,
• check the pressure on the suction vacuum pressure gauge.
The difference between the discharge pressure and suction
pressure will be the real pump head.
