PROCEDURE 3.
MEASURE BLADDER VOLUME
The system has several features designed to help with locating and identifying the bladder. These features
may be enabled or disabled according to the instructions in
• Live B‑Mode Aiming—The system displays a real‑time B‑mode ultrasound view of the patient's
abdomen, allowing you to aim the probe and locate the bladder before scanning.
• Bladder Outline (BladderTraq)—In B‑mode views, the system highlights the detected edges of the
bladder by outlining the bladder area in green.
1. On the Home screen, select whether you are standing on the patient's left or right side. You do not need
to specify the patient's age or sex to obtain an accurate result.
2. With the patient lying in a supine position and with the abdominal muscles relaxed, palpate the patient's
pubic bone.
3. Place an ample quantity of ultrasound gel, with as few air bubbles as possible, midline on the patient's
abdomen, approximately 3 cm (1 inch) above the pubic bone.
