BEST PRACTICES & INSTRUCTIONS
Cleaning is the removal of all visible soil or contaminants, and disinfection is the process of destroying
pathogenic organisms or rendering them inert. When cleaning, make sure all foreign matter is removed. This
allows the active ingredients of the disinfectant to reach all surfaces.
When cleaning and disinfecting the system or its accessories, follow these best practices:
• Do not let gel or other contaminants dry on the system. This makes removal more difficult.
• Change gloves if they become visibly soiled.
• Always wipe from a clean surface towards a dirty surface.
• As you wipe, overlap your strokes as little as possible.
• If a wipe becomes dry or soiled, replace it with a fresh one.
• Do not reuse dry or soiled wipes.
PROCEDURE 1.
CLEAN & DISINFECT THE CONSOLE, PROBE, & CABLE
CLEAN THE CONSOLE, PROBE, & CABLE
1. If the system is on, press the On/Off button
that you want the system to shut down, and then wait for it to do so.
2. Wipe any ultrasound gel completely off of the probe.
3. Using a solution or wipe listed as a cleaner in Table 12, wipe the
console, probe, and probe cable according to the instructions
provided by the cleaner's manufacturer. (If you are using a solution,
apply it with a clean towel.) Repeat as needed to make sure that all
visible contamination is removed.
4. If the console remains wet, you may use a clean soft cloth or
paper towel to remove any residual cleaning solution. Allow the
touchscreen to dry completely before use.
DISINFECT THE PROBE
5. Using a germicidal wipe with an active ingredient class from Table 11,
wipe the probe dome according to the instructions provided by the
wipe's manufacturer.
Wipe again as many times as necessary to keep the component
visibly wet for the entire exposure period. You may use as many
wipes as you need.
6. Allow the probe to air dry completely. Cleaning and disinfection is
complete, and the system is ready for use.
