Using the Adaptec HostRAID configuration programs

Notes:
1. HostRAID is not supported on SCO 6.0 and UnixWare 7.14 operating systems.
2. For SAS and Ultra320 SCSI models, SATA HostRAID must be set to disabled.
Use the Adaptec RAID Configuration Utility programs and SCSISelect Utility (also
referred as IBM ServeRAID-8e), to add RAID level-0 and level-1 functionality to the
integrated SATA controller and the integrated SCSI controller. RAID level-0 is
striping where the drives are seen as a single volume, and increases performances.
RAID level-1 is mirroring where the contents of one drive are copied to the other
drive to increase hard drive availability. Be sure to use these programs as described
in this document. Use these programs to:
v Configure a redundant array of independent disks (RAID) array.
v View or change the RAID configuration and associated devices.
Consider the following information when using the Adaptec RAID Configuration
Utility program and SCSISelect Utility program to configure and manage arrays:
v The integrated SCSI controller with integrated SCSI RAID (in SCSI models) and
v Hard disk drive capacities affect how you create arrays. Drives in an array can

Use the Array Configuration Utility within the Adaptec RAID Configuration Utility
program to add RAID level-0 and level-1 functionality to the integrated SATA
controller. The Array Configuration Utility is part of the BIOS code in the computer.
For additional information about using the Adaptec RAID Configuration Utility
programs, see the documentation on the IBM ServeRAID-8e (Adaptec HostRAID)
Support CD. If this CD does not come with the computer, you can download it from
http://www.ibm.com/support/.
The integrated SATA RAID feature (SATA HostRAID) comes disabled by default.
You must enable it and install the device drivers before you can use it. The SATA
RAID feature configuration utilities, devices drivers, and information are available on
the IBM ServeRAID-8e (Adaptec HostRAID) Support CD.
